William Lewis - April 2, 1921 - November 5, 2019
Passed away at Oshawa Lakeridge Hospital with his family at his side on Tuesday November 5, 2019 after a valiant effort to recover from a fall and hip replacement surgery.
Born April 2, 1921 to the late William Charles and Gladys (McNally) Lott.
Predeceased by Joan (Pearce), his beloved Welsh War Bride of 74 years and his siblings and their spouses: Cameron (Eileen McCrimmon); Helen (Max Graham); Muriel (Earl Judge); Hazel (Ted Stewart).
Loving dad of Jeffrey Lott (Norma), Sharman Tamblyn (Terry) and Sherrie Jesseau (Neil).
Devoted Poppa to his grandchildren Laura (Greg), Erin (Craig), Craig (Natalia), Andrew, Taryn (Brian), Dennis (Laura) and great grandchildren Zoe, Julia, Emma, Damian, Mason, Brooke and Freya.
Born and raised in Oshawa, upon graduation from the Galt Aircraft Training Facility, Lew was recruited voluntarily by the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1939, serving in the UK with 402 and 408 Squadrons until August 1945. A natural athlete, Lew played baseball, hockey, and golf. During WWII, he played on 408 Squadron’s hockey team with Boston Bruins’ Porky Dumont against other Bruins’ Milt Schmidt and Bobby Bauer.
Lew retired from General Motors with 25 years of service in the Stamping Plant, Oshawa. At 98, Lew’s family title of best cribbage player remained intact as he continued consistently to beat his sons-in-law, grandkids and great grandkids. Dad/Poppa, we’ll miss you “forever and always.” Love and a big “Cwtch”, your family. Lew's family extends its thanks to doctors, nursing staff of 6G, and to dietician Sarah and Speech Pathologist Kelly.
We give our heartfelt thanks to all those at Centennial Retirement Residence for your loving care and support to both our parents while they were in your community.
