It is with heavy heart and teary eye that we announce the passing of Alphonse Pfoh, at Peace River Community Health Centre the morning of Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 89 years of age.
Alphonse was born in Dilke, Saskatchewan on 24th of April, 1935. His father moved the family to Waterhole where as the only and eldest son, began working the homestead.
Upon meeting Magdalena (Martha) Luken, Alphonse started down a new path and his position at St. Thomas More School as the school custodian in 1960. He was well known throughout the school, community and church. While at STM, walking the halls Alphonse would regularly engage with students and staff, joking, playing and sometimes even chasing those that dared to tease him. Alphonse has since retired as custodian for both STM School and the church. He and his dearly departed, loving wife, Martha tirelessly volunteered at the STM church, within the community and the local food bank in retirement. Many in the community could attest to seeing Alphonse out in all kinds of weather clearing sidewalks in the winter or cutting the grass for the church or neighbors, all the time not seeking thanks or recognition.
As Alphonse slowed down over the past 2 years, he moved residence to the Fairview Harvest Lodge, where he became reacquainted with a number of his old primary school classmates. He spent his time at the Lodge focusing on the church and attending mass whenever his health would allow.
Alphonse is predeceased by his loving wife Martha; his parents, Mike & Eva Pfoh; siblings Margaret Bland and Clara Dewitt; and grandchild Travis Enns.
Alphonse is survived by his sister, Elizabeth (Henry) Luken of Fairview (AB); his children, Cindy Bellamy of Kelowna (BC), Connie Enns of Fairview (AB), Greg (Penny) Pfoh of Edmonton (AB), Hugh Pfoh (Marieka Vanderburg) of Calgary (AB), as well as five grandchildren, (Jasmine, Cody, Niki, Robyn, and Tyler), four great grandchildren and many god children, nieces and nephews.
As a father, grand-father, god-father, uncle, brother and friend Alphonse’s passing will leave a large void in many lives. He is already missed.
There will be a final viewing at Chapel of Memories, 10917-103 Ave, Thursday August 1, 2024 from 7:00PM-9:00PM where in honor of Alphonse a rosary will be recited.
Alphonse’s memory will be celebrated on Friday August 2, 2024 at 11:00AM from St. Thomas More Catholic Church, with graveside ceremony conducted at Friedenstal Catholic Cemetery immediately after the funeral service.
A reception will follow the graveside service at 1:00PM at the Dunvegan Inn, where water, juice, coffee and finger food will be served.
The family would like to thank Fr. Isidore Oneyka OMI and St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Also, many thanks to all the staff and healthcare providers at the Fairview Harvest Lodge as well as the staff at Fairview Health Complex, and finally thanks to Chapel of Memories for providing the funeral services and support to the family.
