It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our very special and loving Dad, Andrew (Andy) Gonsalves, who peacefully departed from this world on May 24th, 2024, at the age of 87.
Andy is survived by his two children; daughter Gail (Glenn), son Steve (Karen), and his 5 grandsons Craig, Kyle Josh, Alex, and Mitch.
Andy was born on February 5th, 1937 to Lawrence and Gwyneth Gonsalves in St. Vincent.
After losing his parents at a young age, he was raised by his Aunt Marie in St. Vincent.
He began his career at Barclays Bank in Guyana where he met Margarita, the mother of his children. His banking career took him and his family to places such as Jamaica and Antigua.
In 1967, he immigrated to Canada where he continued his career working at CIBC Bank and then in later years with Firestone and Miller Transit. In his retirement years, Andy worked part-time at local car dealerships shuttling vehicles to keep himself occupied.
Andy loved his family. He was always involved in his children’s and his grandchildren’s lives and activities and was always there to help them when called upon. He loved music, road trips, picnics, and playing cards until the wee hours of the morning with his friends and family.
Andy, known to many as, “Super Computer”, began building and repairing computers for his friends and family as a hobby. He always felt real joy in solving computer-related issues for his family and friends.
He will be greatly missed by his loving family and always be remembered in their loving hearts.
A Memorial service for Andy will be held on Friday, May 31st at 11:00 am at the McEACHNIE FUNERAL HOME, Ajax, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations to a charity of your choice in Andy’s honour.
