Passed away peacefully on Friday January 22nd at Fairview Lodge surrounded by family.Beloved husband for 65 years of Dorothy Lillian Smith, father to Brenda McCully (Lorne Roberts), Randy (Debbie), predeceased by his son Terrance James.Loving grandfather to Andrea, Adrienne, Alison, Jennifer, and Stephanie.This loving and caring man will be greatly missed by his eleven great grandchildren Jordan, Jessica, Joshua, Alexus, Trinity, Nevaeh, Hensley, Scarlett, Liam, Jakob, and Noah.Predeceased by his parents James and Pearl and siblings Ruth Dasti, James Brady, and Evelyn Cunningham.He is survived by his sisters Geraldine “Deenie” Edwards and Pearl “Dolly” Chennie. Born in Garson Ontario (Sudbury), he moved to Oshawa with his mother in 1948 after the death of his father.Here, he met the love his life. Bill and Dorothy married in 1950 in Oshawa. Bill had his own plastering business for a while until he began working with the Western Waterproofing Company. They were involved in the construction and expansion of the St Lawrence seaway. The company did the waterproofing of the many houses that had to be moved in Morrisburg in the 1960s.Bill spent the last seventeen years of his career as the Maintenance Manager of the Oshawa Housing Authority. Bill and Dorothy enjoyed many winters in Florida. In 1989 Bill and Dorothy moved to St Catherine’s Ontario and enjoyed every second of their time there. They moved back to Oshawa in 2004 as they were “getting up in years”, wanting to be closer to their family.Bill was the patriarch of his family; loved and respected by all.He always spoke kindly to everyone he encountered. Bill was a Seventh Day Adventist and a member of the Kendalwood church in Whitby; a church he helped to build. He lived his beliefs and he honoured his faith. He loved his Lord and Saviour.Rest in Peace, dear Popa, until we meet again in the Kingdom of Heaven.A very special thank you to the staff at Trafalgar square at Fairview Lodge. Words cannot express our heart-felt gratitude.The funeral service will take place on Thursday January 28th at ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, in Oshawa at 4 p.m. Visitation from 2-4pm in the chapel on Thursday.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ADRA Canada.
