It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful, beloved mother, Cheryl Sullivan (nee Murphy), at the age of 78 at the Ajax Pickering Hospital on May 11, 2024.
She went peacefully in the late hours of the evening, with family close by.
Cheryl will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Martin, her daughters Laura (Simon), Karoline, and Kimberley (Glen), her seven grandchildren Simone (Lorenzo), Jayden, Mason, Dylan, Matthew, Andrew and Aaron, and her great grandson Kieran.
Cheryl was born at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, Ontario, the second of four children to Joseph and Vivienne Murphy (nee Phinnemore).
Cheryl was a very passionate and dedicated teacher throughout her career whose inspired and imaginative teaching approach was known to impact multitudes of students throughout the years. She met Martin, the love of her life, at a Christmas function on Boxing Day 1969 and married a year later on Christmas Eve.
They spent their lives committed to raising their family and building their homes in Pickering and Barry's Bay. Cheryl spent her recent years boasting about her "girls" and "boys". She invested in her dear friendships which brought her so much fulfillment, including those with her siblings, Terry (Shirley) and Pat (Don).
Her sharp wit never failed to provide a sense of sureness and vision, while her warmth and ability to connect made you feel heard and supported, no matter who you were. She loved the arts, in particular music, film, theatre, history and politics.
She was an avid news watcher and reader and held many steadfast opinions on any given subject. She was also extremely creative, loved to decorate, sew, accomplish different kinds of needlework, play the piano and cook with the best of them.
Cheryl loved the water and was an amazing swimmer, especially at Lake Kamaniskeg where she and Martin built our family paradise from the ground up.
Our mom will be so very missed, but she will continue to live on, in memory and spirit, through all whom she loved so dearly.
In lieu of flowers, you may wish to make a donation in memory of Cheryl Sullivan to lung research at the UHN Foundation (Other-Lung Research) https://uhnfoundation.ca/programs/lung/.
