It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Donald "Don" Charles Ward, age 85, of Dartmouth. Don passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at the Admiral Long Term Care Centre in Halifax.
Born in Amherst Head, NS, he was a son of the late Joseph and Verna (Gilbert) Ward.
He graduated from Amherst Regional High School and started his 40 year career with the Royal Bank.
He was active in the communities of which he worked. He was a charter member of the Kinsman Club of Gander and a charter member of Rotary Clubs in Corner Brook and Charlottetown. He was a Boy Scout leader and a member of the service team. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Victoria Lodge, Charlottetown. A highlight during his working years was an invitation to a garden party for the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Following retirement, he took up a new career driving cars for the O’Regan group throughout the Atlantic provinces.
He and Verna spent their summers at the farm in Amherst Head mowing grass, planting vegetables and his beautiful gladiolus. They also took up square dancing and for more than 20 years traveled to dances throughout the maritimes where they met many new friends.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife of 58 years, Verna (Greeno) Ward, Dartmouth; son, Michael, Dartmouth; brother Clayton and wife Judy, Tidnish Bridge, nieces Carla Jo (Andy) UK and Beth Ann (Dale), Riverport, NS.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). A graveside service for his family will be held in the Lorneville Cemetery on July 31, 2024 at 1 PM.
