Erika Jarchow passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, surrounded by the love of her children.
Born in Berlin, Germany on October 19, 1926, Erika was an athletic child who loved to play dodgeball and baseball with the children in her neighbourhood.
Erika met her husband Gustav Jarchow (predeceased) on the beaches of the Baltic Sea.
After marrying in 1947, Erika emigrated to Canada in 1952 with her first son Uwe.
Her life was an adventurous and often trying one, surviving a war, a new country, new language and raising a family of five children. Her greatest happiness came from raising her family and watching them grow to be adults and have families of their own.
Erika was an active member of the South Pickering Seniors’ Club and Pickering Lawn Bowling Club, and in her later years, loved to travel and experience all that life had to offer. Erika was an avid bridge player and card shark of the family, beating everyone at any card game we played.
Erika leaves behind a loving family of 5 children; Uwe (Barb), Ralf (predeceased)(Valerie), Heidi (Wayne), Wendy (Stuart) and Christine (Jason), 12 Grandchildren; Kurt, Craig, Jennifer (predeceased), Robyn, Megan, Christian, Stephanie, Jason, Zachary, Samantha, Joseph and Erika and 17 (soon to be 19) great grandchildren; Addisyn, Masen, Morgan, Paige, Coen, Kiefer, Lauryn, Ethan, Clark, Kennedy, Grady, Emerson, Cameron, Rachel, Tommy, Harper and Miller.
The family is grateful to the health care providers and personal support workers who respected her desire for independence until her death.
Erika was and always will be an inspiration to all that knew her. She will be sorely missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the McEACHNIE FUNERAL HOME , 20 Church St. N, Ajax, Ontario, L1T 2W5 on May 25, 2024, from 12:30-2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Erika’s honour.
