Born on April 2, 1938, in Port Antonio, Jamaica, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 26, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Alvin Howell, and her three children: Gillian and her husband Ian, Steve and his wife Michelle, and Christopher and his wife Saborah.
She was the cherished grandmother of Joshua, Tatiana, Kree, Jaylin, Jaida, Jasmine, and Jade, and the great-grandmother of Diora.
Esther was also a devoted aunt to her nieces and nephews in Canada, United States, Jamaica, and England.
Esther's life was a testament to her love for family and faith in God. An excellent seamstress, she created beautiful dresses that were admired by many. She also had a passion for baking and cooking, especially for her grandchildren, who always delighted in her treats. Esther enjoyed regular visits to the YMCA and cherished her long walks with her husband, Alvin.
Esther began her professional journey when she moved to Kingston from Port Antonio, living with her sister Merdena. She worked for the local government in Jamaica as a switchboard operator. Later, she and her husband immigrated to Canada, where Esther attended George Brown College and graduated as a healthcare worker. She dedicated many years to working with organizations like the Red Cross and Community Care.
A devout Christian, Esther was ordained as an evangelist. Her beautiful voice resonated in every church service, earning her the affectionate title of "the lady who sings beautifully." Esther's faith was unwavering, guiding her every step in life. She was known for her vibrant attire, especially her favorite color, red. She was a beacon of light and love in her community, always ready with a kind word and a hymn of praise.
Visitations will be held at Mount Lawn Funeral Home on Friday, June 14th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, June 15th from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
The Celebration of Esther Howell’s Life will take place at MOUNT LAWN FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, June 15th at 10:30 a.m.
Interment will follow at MOUNT LAWN CEMETERY .
She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her love, kindness, and unwavering faith in the Lord.
