Mary was born in 1939 in Islington, St Mary’s, Jamaica, to Violet Maud and Alexander Augustus Forrest.
She was a cherished twin to Mirriam (predeceased in 2012) and was one of 14 siblings.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joseph Elliott (2008) and is survived by his children and grandchildren.
She is also fondly remembered by her long-time partner and friend Leonard Watts.
Mary was a devoted mother to Junior, Valerie (Albert), Pauline, Andrew (Sylvie), and Lorain, and a loving grandmother to Stephen, Elaine, Milton, Kavin (Bonnie), Amelia, Jermaine, Kareem, Deidrea, Amanda (Arslan), Adrian, Jhadiva, Torel, Azsa, Anysa, and Arya.
Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Omar, Niya, Ma’ Liah, Shequille, Sheqwan, Shecqoia, Jaheim, Charity, Leah, Jaxon, and Magnolia. She was also blessed with great-great-grandchildren: Aiden, A’lynn, Addison, Saelah, and Senae.
In 1968, Mary migrated to Canada seeking a better life, paving the way for her four children to follow and establish their own lives there. Known for her generosity and kindness, Mary was deeply involved in her community, working at Consumer Glass and as a domestic helper. She was a natural entrepreneur, owning a restaurant, an antique store, and several home-based businesses throughout her life. Her resilience and dedication to her family led her to juggle multiple jobs
tirelessly.
Mary was deeply devoted to her Christian faith, which sustained her through life's challenges. She found joy in attending church and participating in community activities that reflected her faith and values. Mary's faith guided her compassion for others, and she was known for her unwavering kindness and support.
Mary had a passion for gardening, sewing, and upholstery, showcasing her creativity and nurturing spirit. She cared deeply for those in need and maintained unwavering faith through life's challenges. Her calm demeanour and sharp wit endeared her to all who knew her, and her desire for peace was a guiding force in her life.
Mary's family and friends will deeply miss her presence.
Until we meet again, she will be remembered lovingly as Mom, Mama, Grandma, and Maremare.
Family and friends will be received at Mount Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby (North of Hwy 2) 647-370-8735 on Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 10 a.m. until the time of service in the chapel at 11 a.m. Interment MOUNT LAWN CEMETERY.
