Listed in Memorials
passed away suddenly, in his 67th year, on Friday May 24, 2024 at the cottage on Dewey’s Island, City of Kawartha Lakes.
Pre-deceased by his parents, E. Douglas and Ilene McCann, Gord was born in Scarborough, Ontario and attended H.A. Halbert P.S., R.H. King S., and Seneca
College.
His career in the recreation/activation of City of Toronto long-term care residents was extremely rewarding.
Upon retirement in 2013, Gord pursued many recreational activities, especially his favourites: hockey, fishing, and golf.
In addition, he spent many hours at his “happy place”, the cottage, where he truly enjoyed the outdoors, with his canine buddies, Sadie and the late, Oakley.
Gord and Sheila loved to travel to such places as the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, and truly appreciated their time at the Ryder Cup in France and Italy. His love of golf was inspired by many visits to his father-in-law’s hometown of St. Andrews, Scotland.
Devoted husband of Sheila McCann (nee Donlon) for 39 yrs, and beloved and proud father of Matthew (Carli) and Andrew. Loving brother of the late Beverley Annis and Marilyn McCann.
Brother-in-law of Ron Annis and Ian Donlon, dear uncle of Lisa Annis and Sherri Annis, and great uncle of 10.
Gord will be sadly missed by his relatives and many close friends, most of which were cultivated during his many seasons playing adult hockey, particularly at Art Thompson Arena in Pickering. His long-time friend, Alec Maynard, will cherish the many fond memories they shared together. He will be truly missed.
Cremation has taken place. We will celebrate his life on Friday, May 31, 2024 from 4:00 - 7:00pm at the McEACHNIE FUNERAL HOME - 20 Church St N, Ajax, Ontario.
Memories will be shared at 4:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Nature Conservancy of Canada, JumpStart, or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
