Herb’s life was full and interesting.
Born at the beginning of World War 2 in Braunschweig, Germany, Herb spent his first five years with his mother and four siblings 500 kilometres from their home in Volklingen.
Herb is survived by Katie, his wife of 47 years, and sons Robert (Nicole), Christopher (Debbie) and Gregory. He is Opa to grandchildren Isabelle, Harrison and Everett. Our son, Karl (1977), predeceased him on August 25, 2023.
Herb will be missed by Katie’s siblings and by many nieces and nephews and their families in Canada and in Germany.
He was the last surviving Probst in his generation. Herb’s life was very active in a variety of community and church based groups, including Knights of Columbus, Brock Community Care and Kinsmen.
He was also active in youth sports for many years, volunteering as a Coach and Manager for his son’s teams and a chauffeur for his sons and grandchildren.
Herb overcame many surgeries and health challenges with tenacity and will power.
Sadly, Herb suffered a massive stroke on January 13th . Father Michael, Katie and Christopher said the prayers for the Sacrament for the Dying and he was anointed with Holy Oils.
His family gathered at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, communicated their love for him and said their good-byes. He died on January 19th in the afternoon. Rest in Peace, Herb.
