On Monday, July 20th, 2015, Irene passed away at the age of 75 with family by her side.Beloved wife of Patrick, her husband of 52 years. Cherished mother to Kathleen (Darryl), Patrick (Debbie) and Anne (Derek). Proud and loving grandma to Kevin, Jesse, Heather, Sean, Christopher, Dylan and Meagan.Irene will also be fondly remembered by her extended family in Ireland, Scotland and the U.S. She was predeceased by Elizabeth Mills (mother), Francis Mills (father), Moira Mills (sister) and Janet Mills (step mother).Irene's passing has left a void in the lives of her family. She loved animals, literature, and tending to the beautiful garden that she built together with her husband Pat. He and "Missy" were constant companions, rarely leaving one another's side. They were made for each other.The family would like to express its sincere and heartfelt appreciation to the doctors and nurses in the Palliative Care Unit at Lakeridge Health Oshawa – many of whom went above and beyond the call of duty to show kindness and compassion to Irene and her family during this difficult time.The family also thanks the good friends and neighbours who visited Irene and provided support to the family during her time in hospital.Father Robert O’Brien of St. Gregory the Great Parish presided over a private family service and interment has taken place at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Whitby.
