Frank Kilborn, 85, longtime Winfield resident and orchardist, passed away on July 18, 2024, in Kelowna, BC.
Frank was born on June 22, 1939, to Paul and Myrtle in Coronation, Alberta. Frank pursued successful careers as a mechanic, service station owner, beloved school bus driver for 21 years, and for most of his adult life apple farmer.
He married Janice Metcalfe in 1960. They shared a full life until her passing in 2010, raising three children: Tracy Bentley (Russ), Michelle Kilborn (Jon), and Todd Kilborn (Nahaar). An avid sportsman, family life often revolved around softball games, curling, camping, and fishing. During retirement, Frank and Janice travelled extensively including Alaska, Panama, the Mediterranean, and many trips to Hawaii.
Frank was active in the Lake Country community, serving for many years in the Winfield Volunteer Fire Department, including as Fire Chief, and was awarded the Fire Services Exemplary Service medal in 1992. He also served on the Winfield Okanagan Center Irrigation District board for many years.
Frank was predeceased by his brother Richard. He is survived by his sister Karen and loving partner of 12 years, Laureen Mathison.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC.
A Celebration of Life will be held on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2024, at 1:00 pm, at SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. A reception will follow.
