85, passed away peacefully on June 11th.
He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Corinne Bertschy.
Klaus a loving father to Mark and Kirk (Sheri), and beloved Pops to Joshua, Jack, Dylan, Luke and Evan.
He was a friend to many, and a special ‘dear’ friend to Marlene Blacklock for the past seven years.
Klaus was born in Riga, Latvia on February 25 1939, to the late Otto and Martha (Kadick) Bertschy.
His family moved many times during WWII, settling in Hanover Germany. Klaus was predeceased by his older brother Peter and sister Irmela, survived by his two younger sisters Monika and Angelika.
Klaus moved to Canada in 1962, and shortly afterwards, met the love of his life, Corinne, after her own journey to Canada from South Africa.
They both stayed at the same rooming house on Castle Frank Rd in Toronto, and were married in 1966. They were married for 50 years until Corinne’s passing in 2016, raising 2 sons (Mark and Kirk) in south Ajax.
Trained as a mechanical engineer in Hanover, Klaus was a successful businessman running Comet Machine with his business partner, Joe Stich, for over 25 years. Always the engineer, Klaus made numerous wooden toys for Mark and Kirk as they were growing up, including a Foosball table, and continued with making wooden toys for all of his grandsons.
He was also an avid wood carver, carving various types of birds from waterfowl, shorebirds, songbirds, raptors to Corinne’s beloved owls.
Klaus will be sadly missed by all of his family and his many friends, including his amazing neighbours and friends at Lynde Creek Village and his cherished “Massey Gang” whom he befriended in his early days in Canada.
