It is with our deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful girl, Lainey Susan Rehburg. Born on the 27th of May 2024 at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Lainey was our little Rockstar from the start, bringing us joy, love and laughter every day and through each hurdle. Lainey loved to smile, and her smile was the best—when Lainey smiled at you, she made you feel like you were the only person in the world. Although she was only with us for 7 short weeks, Lainey loved her life and was surrounded by love, kindness and care. She was so engaging, knowing what she wanted and what she didn’t want and earning herself the nickname “Sass Queen” during her stay at Sick Kids. Even when she was swaddled snug and cozy, Lainey would push her little arms free, then give you the sweetest look of triumph—so determined to free herself from her blankets so she could hold her beloved giraffe who was as big as Lainey herself!
Lainey stole all of our hearts—so bright so happy, so very loving. Each of her precious days she loved to look around and take in her world and all the love around her, but she was never happier than when she heard her Mom and Dad talking to her, opening her eyes to give them a loving look every time. Lainey’s big giraffe, her Mom and Dad, bath time, head rubs and cuddles were her favorite things—such a wonderful girl. Lainey knew the vast love of her parents, Taylor Bradley and Dylan Rehburg, from the moment of her birth. She also knew the love of her grandparents, Christine and Scott Bradley and Tracey and Neil Rehburg, surviving great grandparents, Ronnie and Doreen Gaudet, Denis Rehburg, Nancy Hann and Mary Naugle, her uncles Matthew (Ally Pett) and Kirkland, her Godmother, Kayleigh Wood, Godfather David Rehburg, her great aunts and uncles, as well as so many wonderful and caring friends who Lainey came to know as her extended family. For all of the love Lainey received, she gave it back to us a million-fold, she was a Rockstar indeed.
Lainey was predeceased by her maternal great grandparents, Gary and Diane Bradley, paternal great grandparents, Susan Wells-Rehburg and David Naugle, and her paternal great great grandmother, Mary Romo.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who gave their love and support to Lainey. Special thanks to Kayleigh Wood and Morgan Alcorn for organizing a wonderful fundraiser so that Lainey’s stay at Sick Kids in Toronto was manageable with peace of mind. We would also like to thank everyone who participated in Lainey’s fundraiser—your love, kindness and generosity will not ever be forgotten.
Lainey’s time with us was short, but the beauty of who she was touched our hearts in ways we had not imagined could be. Our time with Lainey would not have been as long, as joyous or even possible without the excellent medical care she received in both Halifax and Toronto. Words cannot express the depth of our gratitude for the gift of Lainey and the precious time we had with her, and we extend our most heartfelt thanks to Lainey’s medical teams at the IWK and Sick Kids hospitals.
A celebration of Lainey will be held on Tuesday, July 23rd at 1 pm at the Eastern Passage Community Funeral Home on Cow Bay Road, followed by a reception at The Eastern Passage Buffalo Club. In lieu of flowers we invite you to make a donation to the IWK hospital in Halifax or the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
