It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Leo Alic on December 22, 2023 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
Leo was a quiet man, sensitive, loyal to family, a good neighbour, and a hard worker his entire life. He showed his love by sharing his talents for carpentry, home repair, and his general ability to fix anything. He gave assistance generously to anyone who needed it and was known as the neighborhood handyman for many years. Evidence of his talents grace the homes of his family and many neighbours.
Family was important to Leo, whether near or back home in Slovenia. We never doubted his love or his pride in his family.
Born in Sveti Duh, Slovenia, Leo came to Canada in his late teens with his family. He worked at General Motors in Oshawa for 34 years and retired at the age of 55.
Leo was predeceased by his father Leo, his mother Franciska, and his sister Margaret. He is survived by his wife Frieda of 56 years, daughters Christine, Michelle (Jeremy), grandchildren Sarah (Jake) and Emily, his brother Andrew, nieces, nephews, and cousins in Canada and Slovenia. He will be missed greatly by friends and neighbours.
We extend our gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and PSWs at Streamway Villa in Cobourg, and Peterborough Regional Health Centre’s GABU floor. Your care and compassion has made this journey a little easier.
Leo chose to leave this life as quietly as he lived it and did not want a traditional funeral. A celebration of life will be announced in January.
If you wish to honor Leo donations to the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region would be appreciated, or plant a tree in his memory.
Leo loved a good walk in the forest.
