Late on the evening of February 19, 2023.
Marguerite “June” Eikhard passed away at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in her 91st year.
June moved to Oshawa from the Maritimes in the 60’s with her husband Cecil, who was working as a TV repairman and her 2 children Brent and Shirley.
The whole family was musical. June was a tremendously talented fiddle player, but was able to play all the stringed instruments, as well as the piano and drums.
She played as a band member on the fiddle with many excursions to the U.S.A. where she was always greatly appreciated.
She will be remembered for her great sense of humour, her unforgettable laugh and her musical expertise.
She was a friend to everyone, and helped anyone in need. Yes, the First Lady of the Fiddle and Country Music has gone from us, but she will never be forgotten.
June was predeceased by her husband Cecil, son Brent, later partner Roy Witty, grandson Jamie VandenBogaard, and daughter Shirley. She will be so missed by her many friends, and daughter in law Patti Thompson.
A Celebration of Life at the Legion Branch #43, and an interment of cremated remains will be held at a later date.
