It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our kind, generous and selfless husband, son, brother, father, beloved grandfather and friend.
On Monday, December 11, 2023 Michael Shawn Scanlon, 65, of Newcastle Ontario passed away peacefully at Oak Ridges Hospice with his wife, Cindy and sister, Diane by his side.
After a brave 1-year battle with Glioblastoma, he never gave up, stayed positive and determined.
Loving husband to Cindy for 15 years and eldest son of Jeanette Scanlon and Gerry (predeceased).
Father to Elizabeth Mahar and Jennifer Brown (Robert), step-father to Kevin King (Rhea) and Gina Waduck (Jamie).
Grandfather to Dylan, Kyle, Laura, River and Adam.
Brother to Diane Jolliffe (John), Brett Scanlon (Sue), Tim Scanlon (predeceased) and uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
Mike loved spending time with his children and was a superhero to his grandchildren. Before diagnosis, he enjoyed travelling, fishing, golfing and playing baseball with the Wilmot Lakers.
He always held a special place in his heart for his Wilmot Peeps. His energy was electric, living life to the fullest with the biggest smile.
Though we cannot see him, we know he’s by our side.
A celebration of life in Mike’s honour will be held at the Wilmot Creek Wheelhouse (1 Wheelhouse Drive, Newcastle) on Thursday, January 4th, from 2pm - 4pm.
We would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Syed (Newcastle), the staff and volunteers at Oak Ridges Hospice for their care and compassion as well as his home care nurse, Alecia and the many PSWs that helped him through this tough battle.
Donations in Mike’s memory can be made to SickKids Hospital, a place very dear to him. https://www.sickkidsfoundation.com/waystodonate/inhonourorinmemory2.
