It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Phyllis Kathleen Groskopf in her 87th year, on April 25, 2024, at the Lakeridge Hospital in Ajax after a lengthy illness.
Predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Lesley Leopold Groskopf of Ajax. Mother to Colin Groskopf (Suzanne Mallette) and Bruce Groskopf (Mercedes).
Grandmother to Heather Cox (Tyler) and Rachel Groskopf (Tim Holland).
Great Grandmother to Leland, Willow, Kennedy and Rowen.
Born on February 3, 1938 to her parents David Major and Marion Jansen of Toronto. Phyllis grew up in Toronto where she worked for Bell Canada for a time and images of her as an operator were taken for promotional work.
Her life size photographs were prominently displayed at Bell Canada’s head office. Once she became a mother she decided to return to school and graduated Nursing school in 1961.
Phyllis worked as a nurse in Toronto and Ajax area hospitals, special needs facilities for children and retirement homes. Her sincere caring approach to patients endeared her to all who had the good fortune to come under her care. Shortly after her husband’s retirement Phyllis also retired and the two spent their winters at a condominium that they purchased in Naples, Florida.
Their trips to Naples and her husband’s childhood home of Jamaica made for many memorable and happy moments in their long-standing love story. Phyllis was a woman of faith and her beliefs played a central role in her approach to life.
