Ronald Irwin Bowers passed away unexpectedly on July 8, 2024, at Lakeridge Health Hospital in Oshawa. Born on October 3, 1942, in Picton, Ontario, Ron was a beloved husband, partner, father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend known for his adventurous spirit and love of life.
Ron spent his career as a heavy equipment operator at St Marys Cement, taking great pride in his work. He enjoyed fishing, ATV riding, stock car racing, and anything that went fast. At his cherished cottage on Effingham Lake, he was known for his generosity often welcoming friends with a shot of Gibson whiskey or a cold Coors Light in his "bug-free zone" gazebo. Ron's life was greatly enriched by the community at Effingham Lake where he was well-loved and respected.
Ron is survived by his loving partner of 23 years, Mary Jane, whom he adored. Ron is now reunited with first love, Cecilia (Gibson), who left this world too early at the age of 51. Ron leaves in mourning his daughter, Rose Lamb (Sandy Fodey), stepdaughter Susan (Greg Lee) and their daughters, Kelly and Catherine. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Wallace and Elrena Bowers (Potter), and sisters Mable (Ken) Shelley, Bernice (Evan) Isenor, and Margaret (Cam) Miller. He is survived by siblings Marjorie (Ivan) Struthers, Kathleen Bowers, Walter Bowers, and Betty Breakenridge. Ron was loved and will be remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews. His infectious laughter and zest for life will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held on July 19, 2024, from 12pm to 3pm at the Village of Taunton Mills at 3800 Brock Street North in Whitby, Ontario.
A special thank you to Noella Black and her team at the Village of Taunton Mills for being there through Ron’s journey, and for welcoming Mary Jane. Special thanks to Ron’s close friend, Stan Stein, for his love and support throughout the years, especially during Ron’s final weeks.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you celebrate Ron's memory by embracing life with joy and enthusiasm, as he did. Those wishing to donate can do so to the Wilfred Schlegel Hope Fund, a program that assists frontline caregivers with financial support during times of unforeseen financial hardship, a cause close to Ron’s heart. Donations can be made at Schlegelvillages.com under the giving back tab.
