VALCKX, Mary Hendrika Valckx  -
January 15, 1935 – August 12, 2024

Mia (Mary) Valckx (nee Spreeuwenberg) passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024, at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa.

She will be remembered for her warm heart, remarkable hospitality and the joy she brought to those around her.

Mia was the beloved wife of the late Matthew Valckx, with whom she shared 53 wonderful years until his passing in 2014.

She was a devoted mother to Marietta (the late Michael Quinney, passed in 2009), Christine (Mat Bloedorn), and her late son Herman (Theresa Valckx), who passed away in 2007.

Mia was also a loving Oma to her six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Born in Sevenum, Netherlands on January 15, 1935, Mia spent her early years helping on her family's farm before meeting Matt through a post-WWII pen pal program. After immigrating to Canada in the late 1950s, she maintained close ties with her relatives in the Netherlands, always treasuring her Dutch heritage.

Mia enjoyed gardening, hosting, cooking for her loved ones, traveling across Canada with her family and exploring the world later in life.

A dedicated member of the Catholic Women’s League for over 50 years, Mia found joy in spending time with her family and took great pride in showcasing her sewing, knitting and crocheting talents at church bazaars. Her beautifully crafted items brought joy to many - a legacy that continues today.

A private funeral service will be held on a later on date.
