The Pioneer Cemetery was originally located to the east of Oshawa Harbour on property once owned by Lyman Gifford, a former mayer of Oshawa. Many of the original settlers and their families were buried there, including Benjamin Wilson, the first settler in this area. IN 1975 the cemetery was transferred to city-owned land at Bonnie Brae Point. Unfortunately, when the move took place, Benjamin Wilson's tombstone disappeared and has not been recovered.
