Isabel Ann Petch (nee Morwood) was born in Markdale on September 10, 1936 to Ira and Inez Morwood, passed away peacefully in Owen Sound on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at the age of 87.
She was one of six children. Isabel grew up as a country girl and attended a one room school house along with her siblings.
She married Murray Petch sixty-seven years ago and they had three daughters, Patricia (John Hazell), Sandra and Cynthia. Her home remained in Meaford.
Over the years, Isabel and Murray were involved in various clubs and groups in town. They enjoyed friendships and functions at the Meaford Military Base, the Meaford Rotary Club and the Meaford Curling Club. They were both long standing members of the Church of Christ.
Isabel, Murray and their family enjoyed outings in the surrounding area that included fishing the Big Head River, picking wild raspberries, morels and puff balls. Some Sunday afternoons meant a family drive in the country and Isabel was often the one who would first to spot deer near the roadside.
Her joy and passion were in her garden that she would faithfully tend well into her eighties. She often commented on how lovely the view was over her backyard as she enjoyed the flowers, shrubs and trees. She kept the bird feeders full and was always on the lookout for her feathered friends. She loved to share stories of the wild life like deer and foxes that would come into the yard for a visit.
She enjoyed seeing her grandsons, Matthew (Alana) and Justin (Nicole) Hazell and was blessed with four great grandchildren who knew her as GG ‘great grandmother’. She enjoyed hearing about the lives of Nicholas, Mackenzie, Julia and Nathan.
Isabel is survived by her brother, Arnold (Anne) and sisters, Lorene (Alec), Leona and Mary. She was predeceased by her husband, Murray and her brother, Milson and his wife, Phyllis. She is remembered by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Church of Christ on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 10 am, with a service of committal and interment following at Lakeview Cemetery. All are welcome to attend a reception and share refreshments in the hall at the church.
As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer Society or the Church of Christ in Meaford would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.
