It is with truly broken hearts that we announce the passing of Maude Mary Jones, aged 81, of Whitby, Ontario, on December 29, 2024. Maude passed away peacefully at The Village of Taunton Mills, surrounded by her close family. She had resided there for the past two and a half years, cherished by all who knew her.

Predeceased by her parents, Bernard and Cecilia Kenney of Conche, Newfoundland, Maude is survived by her loving husband of over 60 years, Leonard Jones. She was the devoted mother of Wayne (Karen), Darren, Leonard (Lori), Kenneth (Crystal), and Eugene (Belinda). Her grandchildren – Arthur, Katie, MaKayla, Michael, Tyler, Daniel, Beckie, Mich, KJ, Billy, Victoria, and Vanessa – and her great-grandchildren – Elijah, Dawson, Skyler, Fayth, Zoey, Avery, Hunter, Hayden, Phoenix, Ela, Atlas, and Leo – will dearly miss her love and presence.

Maude’s heart of gold and dedication to family will forever be remembered. Known for her love of Bingo, she was an active part of the Taunton Mills community, contributing to the residence committee and brightening the lives of those around her. Her life’s journey took her from Newfoundland to Ontario, always surrounded by the love of family and friends.

The family extends their gratitude to the staff at The Village of Taunton Mills for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maude’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

Passed away peacefully with his wife by his side, after a brief illness, on December 24, 2024, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

Bill Johnston, in his 78th year, leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Irene. Dear father of William Michael (Cat Ashton) and Michelle Renee. Grandfather of Tyler Atwell. Dear brother of Frank Robbins (Lynne). Brother-in-law of Larry Vaillancourt, Victor Vaillancourt, Pierrette Dale (Bruce), and the late Gerry Vaillancourt.

Bill will be lovingly remembered by his extended family, many friends at the TTC, and his golf buddies. He was the best friend for many years of Ted Reilly (Patty).

Bill was a proud retiree of the TTC after more than 40 years of service. He enjoyed golfing with his friends, discovering new restaurants in Toronto, and traveling. Bill and Irene shared many adventures together, cruising with family and friends. Growing up in Boston, Bill was a lifelong Boston Bruins fan and cherished his annual trips to visit his brother.

Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

After a courageous battle with cancer, Rodolfo is now free of pain and hardship. He is at rest, breathing freely, biking, and embracing all the talents he shared during his time on earth and more.

He was deeply loved by his wife, Rachelle; his daughters, Denise and Julienne; his father, Rodolfo Javier Sr.; his siblings, Maricris Valle, Myrene Villanueva, and Rodolfo Javier III; and all his nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Dearly loved Donald Benjamin James, also known as Danny, Dan, and Bingie, passed away on December 1, 2024, at John Noble Home in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, where he had been lovingly cared for over the past year. His passing occurred peacefully, following a day filled with tremendous love, prayer, and support from his children, siblings, grandchildren, friends, pastoral care, and nursing staff.

Born on December 4, 1950, Danny passed away just three days shy of his 74th birthday. He immigrated to Canada in 1974 and was a carpenter by trade and a licensed plumber for over 30 years. He retired in 2015 as a stellar employee of Armstrong Baum and embarked on his lifelong goal of an amazing retirement journey at the house he built with his own hands in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica.

Danny was born in Kingston, Jamaica, to the late Joseph James and Lucille Ledford. He was lovingly raised by his God-fearing surrogate mother, the late Catherine Reece. He leaves behind cherished children Annjean, Rohan, Amelia, Dori, and two adopted daughters in Jamaica. He was a proud grandfather to Jahmeel, Aleeyah, Tahmia, Savana, Danielle, Jacob, Brandon, and Adrian. Danny is also survived by a host of remarkable brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and dearly loved friends.

Known for his passion for family, friends, music, and dominoes, Danny’s drive for excellence in his work and all he set his mind to was exceptional. His legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will remain a cherished memory for all who knew him.

It is with heavy hearts and a deep sense of loss that we announce the peaceful passing of Martie Johnson at the age of 91 on October 26, 2024, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

Born on January 24, 1933, in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, Martie was the eldest of five children to Blake and Annie Franklin. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Blake Johnson (Roberta), Sandra Clarke (Paul), and Jim Purvis. Cherished grandma to Jamie-Lee Johnson (A.J.), Wesley Johnson (Kimberly), Courtney Toner (Nicole), Hailey Toner, Trevor (Rachel), Caitlin, and Zoe (Garth), and proud great-grandma of Casey, Brady, Austin, Hadley, Grayson, and Charlie. Martie is survived by her sister Joan Pogue, and predeceased by her siblings Winston Franklin, Duffy Franklin, and Alice McClenaghan. She also leaves behind her nephew Lorne McClenaghan and many extended family members, along with her dear friend Molly Lochan, who spoke with her each evening.

Martie loved to spend time outdoors, enjoying the sun and the company of others. She delighted in picnics, holiday trips, and strolls along Yonge Street in Uptown Toronto, where she developed close friendships with local merchants. Social by nature, Martie treasured gatherings with family and friends, making connections easily wherever she went.

Her final years were spent at Extendicare Oshawa, where she made many friends and received compassionate care. The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff for their kindness and support.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa, followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel. In Martie’s memory, donations to a charity of your choice are appreciated.

With heavy hearts, we share that Joanne passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25th, 2024, at Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry, with her family by her side, holding her hands.

Joanne bravely faced a swift and aggressive battle with pancreatic cancer, her strength and grace evident to the end. Our grief is profound, and words cannot express how deeply she will be missed. We find solace in knowing her suffering was brief, and peace came gently.

Joanne was a devoted wife to John B., loving mom to Deanne (Dale) and James (Erin), and beloved Oma to Samantha, Conor, and the students at BVPS. We are grateful to Our Heavenly Father for the many beautiful years we shared, filled with cherished memories, laughter, and love.

A heartfelt thank you to the compassionate hospice team and volunteers at Oak Ridges, whose care brought comfort in her final days. We are eternally grateful for their kindness and support.
