May 21, 1931 – January 25, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Aunt, Joan Yvonne Nesbitt, on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the age of 93. A woman of passion and dedication, Joan touched the lives of everyone she met through her wit, laughter, and unwavering commitment to her community.

Joan was born in Brooklin, Ontario on May 21, 1931 to Walter and Gladys Nesbitt. As a young girl she was always active and had a love for baseball, but her real love was curling. Joan was a proud Platinum member of the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club, where her love for the game was only rivaled by her competitive spirit and camaraderie with friends. At the age of 79, Joan proudly had an “8 Ender” which made way for the personalized license plate, JYN8NDR, she sported for the rest of her years. She threw her last rock in 2020 but remained a member until she passed.

Her love for sport was matched by her devotion to service. Joan made a profound impact as the Provincial Program Chair and the National Ranger Advisor for the Girl Guides of Canada, guiding countless young women with wisdom and encouragement.

Joan worked for over 30 years as a salaried employee with General Motors Canada. She retired in 1990 to “enjoy the rest of her life” and she did it with gusto!

Outside of her professional and community endeavors, Joan was a devoted fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, never missing a game and always celebrating the highs and lows, even when they played the Yankees. She enjoyed savoring a good glass of scotch, often shared in good company with a story or two to tell.

Joan is survived by her nieces; Lisa (Frank), Sharon, and Kelly (Steve). Her great nieces and nephews; Lindsay (Justin), Nicholas (Noemi), Tyler (Brittany), and Nadia (Sean); and her three great-great nephews; Jax, Benjamin, and Leo.

Joan was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Gladys, and her brother, Roy.

We would like to thank Lakeridge Heights for their care over the last four years and a special thanks to Lisa Roberts who was Joan’s weekly companion. Her care and support will always be greatly appreciated.

A celebration of life will take place on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, from 11:00am-1:00pm at the Oshawa Funeral Home:

847 King Street West
Oshawa, ON L1J 2L4

Light refreshments will be served.

Sheree Elisabeth Nicholson

September 27, 1960 - January 17, 2025

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Sheree Elisabeth Nicholson O’Connor. Sheree sadly passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, with her loving husband, Tom O’Connor, and daughter, Margaux Nicholson-Brennan, by her side.

Sheree was born in 1960 (she gave us her permission to disclose her age only after she passed) to Rod Nicholson and Audrey Burrows. She was the second oldest of four siblings: Debra, Sandra, and Steven.

Sheree was married three times, and each marriage brought more people into her life who remained loved and cherished by her. Her first marriage brought her daughter Margaux Nicholson-Brennan. Her second marriage brought her five stepchildren: Brian, Lori, Lianne, Ben, and Jacob. Through them, she welcomed her first grandchildren: Riley, Gavin, Colton, Tegan, and Sloane. Her final marriage to Tom brought into her life her stepdaughter Katrina. Sheree often spoke of Tom being her rock. They shared many happy times and tough moments, but Tom's love for Sheree never wavered. He was strong, loving, and gave Sheree a happiness she was so grateful for.

Sheree spent many mornings and afternoons caring for her grandson Brennan, with whom she shared a very special bond.

Sheree touched so many lives with her wisdom and positivity. She nurtured, inspired, and helped everyone she could, never asking for anything in return. She truly was the embodiment of her business, “Live with Spirit,” which she lived in every aspect of her life.

True to Sheree's nature, she actually wrote most of this herself in 2021 as part of an assignment while earning a degree in metaphysics.

There will be a celebration of life for Sheree in the next couple of months. Until then, Sheree would want us to remember the life she lived and not mourn the life she lost.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home.

John Nichol

June 18, 1940 - January 22, 2025

In Loving Memory Of John Nichol, 84, who passed away peacefully with family by his side on January 22, 2025, at Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa, Ontario. Born on June 18, 1940, he was the firstborn to Isabel and Kenneth Nichol, in Campbellton, New Brunswick. He was a loving brother to Bonnie, Bill (Anita), and Bruce, and was predeceased by Doris (Keith), Sharon, Judy, and Terry (Bill). His family moved to Ontario when he was young, and he started working at an early age to help support his family. His work ethic was unparalleled throughout his life.

It was in Oshawa that he met the love of his life, Diana (nee Jacenty), and they were married for over 59 years. Together they created a loving and supportive home for their four children: Susan (Andrew), Sandra (Mike), John “Jay” (late Michelle), and James “Jim” (Heather). Later in life, his love extended to his precious grandchildren: Olivia (Lars), Rebecca, Melissa, Kaitlyn, and Brooklyn. John will be deeply missed by his family, extended family, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

John lived life to the fullest and was always up for social time. His sense of humor touched all who knew him. He was a kind and gentle soul who would do anything to help anyone.

His dedication to his community was evident in his ongoing service with the Oshawa West Lions Club, where he was honored with a lifetime service award.

John started his career as a driver for Ideal Dairy, then Hostess Chips, but quickly realized he wanted to be his own boss. He owned and operated a convenience store, Ray’s Smoke Shop, for most of his career.

John loved sports and was involved in coaching and refereeing baseball and hockey for his siblings, children, and others. He loved fishing and owned a large boat at Oshawa Harbour for many years. John also enjoyed golf, playing cards, and traveling. Some of his favorite destinations included Hawaii, Las Vegas, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

In the later part of his life, John needed care for himself. When his wife, Diana, could no longer provide that care on her own, he moved to Hillsdale Estates, Honey Harbour, where he received exceptional care. Diana and family deeply thank the Hillsdale Estates family (staff, residents, and their families) for the love and care they provided to John, endearingly known to many as "Poppa John."

There will be a Funeral Service to Honour John’s Life on February 3, 2025, at Mount Lawn Funeral Home, 21 Garrard Rd, Whitby, Ontario. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m., followed by the Service at 2:00 p.m.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice.
