Yvonne Josephine (Ruthie) Baker was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She left this world on August 7, 2024 at the age of 85 in Oshawa, ON.
She was born to Gertrude and Walter Baker on September 28, 1938 in Exeter, England and immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1959. She chased her singing and piano playing aspirations with the Salvation Army. Anyone who knew Yvonne, knows she had the voice of an angel, even producing a gospel album called “Everlasting Life”.
Yvonne is survived by her three children: Nadeen (Greg) Carriere, Nashelle (Michael) Barsky, and Timothy (Shelly) Berezowski.
Along with her six grandchildren: Michael, Raquel, Madison, Josiphine, Courtney and Caleb. And six great grandchildren: Charlotte, Lily, James, Michael, Aaron and Florence.
Yvonne loved spending time with her grandchildren, singing, reading her bible, knitting, and being with her numerous pets over the years. She was a skilled piano player who would always gravitated towards the nearest piano to display her talents.
Yvonne loved Jesus, and it gives us peace to know she is reunited with her two brothers, bossing them around no doubt.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 4:30pm on Thursday, August 15 at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home. 5295 Thickson Rd N, Whitby, ON.

A resilient man with a strong work ethic, passed away after a difficult battle with cancer on March 9, 2024.
He was 79 years old. Yau Shing was born on April 25, 1945 and raised in Hong Kong amidst the bustling streets.
However, determined to seek a brighter future, he immigrated to Toronto, Canada in search of a better life.
Shortly after immigrating to Canada, he married Lukin in 1976 who gave birth to their son in 1977.
In a short period of time, after arriving in Canada, Yau Shing had also landed a job as a mechanic at a Swedish based industrial Air Compressor manufacturer operating in Canada. Through hard work and sheer determination, Yau Shing steadily laid the foundation to build a life for himself and his family in Canada, eventually purchasing a home, and raising their son.
His strong work ethic, coupled with his kindness and generosity, endeared him to colleagues, friends, and neighbors alike. As a determined individual, Yau Shing and his wife went on to become business owners of a bakery.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he always enjoyed the simple things in life. He never turned down the opportunity to help his son and grandchildren with whatever they needed.
Yau Shing is survived by his loving wife, son, and two grandchildren who will carry his legacy forward.
Though he may be gone, his hard working and kind spirit will continue to guide and inspire his son and grandchildren. Rest in peace, Yau Shing. We love you.
