Ann Wright Cowman

Ann Wright Cowman

Listed in

December 28 1934 – March 27 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Ann Cowman announces her death of natural causes on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.

She was predeceased by her parents Bob and Doris (née Loffman) Wright and her older brother Bob.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband David Cowman, and her children John (Cathy Eliot), Rebecca (Brent Bentham), and Deborah (Chris Lowry). ‘Nana’ to Luke, Lauren, Maddy, Will, John, Sarah, Robert and D.J. Ann grew up in the countryside near Birmingham, England.

She married David Cowman while she was studying to be a nurse and David was in medical school.

They emigrated to Canada in 1965 with their three children, and settled in the Oshawa area.

Her father, a butcher by trade and a country squire by inclination, had once planned to homestead in Canada, so her urge to come here was a fulfillment of that ideal.

She served on Durham Regional Council for many years starting in the 1970s.

One of her last big projects was the restoration of a ruined 1847 log home out on the Salem Road near Little Britain. Ann and David enjoyed many adventures, travelling all over the continent in their camper van. For the last twenty years they have lived in Port Perry with a view of the lake from their balcony, amidst their collections of fine antiques and clocks.

Ann was a bold problem solver, and passed on her philosophy of resourcefulness to her children and grandchildren.

The family will have a private memorial and burial.

In place of flowers please consider donating to the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

October 9, 1940 - March 23, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Arthur Bugelli, who left this world on March 23, 2024 surrounded by his family. His life was a testament to love, kindness, generosity and unwavering dedication to all those he loved.

Born on October 9, 1940, in Rabat, Malta to Paul and Annie, Art enjoyed his childhood and was part of a large, loving family.

He shared a special bond with each of his siblings, Mary, Rosie, Sam, Jessie, Joe & John- nurturing lifelong friendships built on love and shared experiences.

After serving in the British Navy for a time, Art decided to emigrate to Canada in 1962.

However, he always maintained a close connection with Malta and his family there, visiting as often as he could.

He settled in Whitby, Ontario and worked at General Motors for his entire career.

He married Moya Bugelli (née Docherty) and had two children, Karyn and Michael. After retirement, he gladly left winter behind and settled in Sarasota, Florida where he met his current partner Rosemarie Sanson and soon built a life with her in Oakwood Manor.

Art touched the lives of many with his warmth, kindness and generosity. Whether lending a helping hand to a friend in need of a renovation or offering words of encouragement to a stranger, he was loved by all. He immersed himself in the Oakwood Manor community, building sets, helping with shows, and decorating for events such as Halloween and St. Patrick’s Day. His legacy will be remembered for years to come.

Art is survived by his loving partner, Rosemarie Sanson, his children, Karyn (Joe), Mike (Jody), Rosemarie’s children Monique, Rob and Renee, and all his grandchildren, Dominik, Morgan, Alexa, Athena, Victor, Cooper, Emma, Jake, Deneen, Tristan, Kiera and Emma as well as his great-grandchildren Chevy and James as well as a host of relatives and countless friends who will cherish his memory forever.

Though there will be no formal funeral service as per Art’s wishes, we invite those who knew and loved Art to join us in celebrating his life and legacy at a future date to be determined.

However, we can all honor his memory by embracing the values he held dear – love, generosity, and kindness towards others.

Though he may be gone from our sight, he will never be absent from our hearts.

Alicja Chacinski

Alicja Chacinski

Listed in

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Alicja Chacinski on March 23, 2024 at the age of 97.

Mum was born in Warsaw, Poland on February 4, 1927.

She was predeceased by husband Waclaw 58 years ago, and is survived by sons Vince (Kim), Roman (Leni), Peter (Donna), and grandchildren Alexandra, Kate (Aaron), and Michael. Generous, feisty, compassionate, courageous, resilient, fiercely independent, and most of all, loving describe this remarkable woman.

Alicja was 12 years old when World War II broke out. One day at the age of 16, she was at a railway station in Warsaw going to visit her aunt. She never made it.

She was taken away by enemy soldiers to work in various labour camps in Germany, never to see her family again.

Ironically this saved her life. Had she stayed in Warsaw, she likely would have perished along with her family and friends about a year later when Warsaw was bombed during the Warsaw Uprising.

There was a second time she avoided death. While working in a salvage depot, she developed an excruciating earache.

The foreman took pity on her and sent her to the hospital. A few hours after she left, the salvage depot was bombed killing all of her co-workers.

When the war ended, she ended up in a refugee camp in southern Germany where she married dad, and gave birth to Vince and Roman.

It was clear to mum that there was no future for the family in Germany, so our family of four immigrated to Toronto. This is where she gave birth to Peter. Life was getting good until the sudden passing of our dad when he was only 42.

She took on various jobs and rented rooms in our house and did whatever she could to ensure that we were never hungry or cold.

After her three boys left home, mum sold her Toronto home and moved to Ajax where she spent the last and best 35 years of her life. Mum loved the outdoors, especially fishing.

She lived for her grandchildren and adored them as they adored her. She was loved by all who crossed paths with her. She was a real fighter right to the very end.

A heart felt thank you to the amazing management and staff at the Lakeridge Gardens Long Term Care Home where she was continuously stimulated, entertained, and cared for.

Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Alicja are asked to consider the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
