It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Kim Mary Elizabeth Visser (nee Memery), a beloved wife, Mom, sister, daughter, cousin, friend, secretary, and defender of the underdog.

Kim died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on May 2nd, 2024, at Lakeridge Hospital in Oshawa, ON.

Many people know her as Mrs. Visser, the heart and soul of Denis O’Connor Catholic High School.

For over twenty years she helped staff and students navigate the highs and lows of high school, providing counsel, comfort, and a safe place for many.

The outpouring of support from the DO’C community has been remarkable.

As visitor after visitor poured into her hospital room to say goodbye, it became undoubtedly clear that Kim’s love, laughter, and kind soul had a profound effect on every person who walked through DO’C’s hallways.

Others will remember her as Kim Memery, or perhaps “Kimmie”: the darling of the Terrace Roller Rink in Toronto, driving around the neighbourhood in her iconic green Camaro.

Throughout her life, she lit up every room she walked into, and had a true gift for making people feel seen. Kim will be remembered as the most attentive, caring, compassionate, and selfless person we have ever had the privilege of knowing.

Kim is survived by her husband, Edward Visser, their two daughters, Carlie and Erin Visser, her mother, Doreen Memery, and her dear Auntie Eileen. She was predeceased by her brother, Don, and dad, John “Jack” Memery. We will miss her every day.

Her laugh, her hugs, and her special way of finding humour in even the most stressful of situations.

Words are not enough to express just how much Kim meant to so many people.

We love you Mrs. Visser… Kim… Kimmie… Mom…M.O.T.H…Y.O.T.H.

Visitation to take place on Friday May 10, 2024 at THORNTON FUNERAL CENTRE (1200 Thornton Road North, Oshawa 905-579-6787) from 2:00pm – 6:00pm.

January 19, 1991 - April 24, 2024

"The world doesn't feel as happy anymore" It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kayla Catheriner Allert, a remarkable young woman who defied the odds with her indomitable spirit and zest for life.

Kayla passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24 at Toronto General Hospital. She was 33 years old.

Kayla joined the Smales family at the age of seven where she quickly became the heart and soul of her family.

Her infectious enthusiasm for life was evident to all who knew her and she was a testament to resilience and joy despite facing significant health challenges from a young age. Kayla will be missed dearly by her family including her mommy Frances Smales, sister Tori Kay (Steve), brother Andrew Smales (Fran Kerfoot), sister Tiffin Monk (Rob Bertschi), best friend Christine Bilsky, and the "kids" Billy, Lily, Vivian and Sebastian. Kayla is predeceased by her cherished daddy David Smales.

Despite her health issues, Kayla knew how to enjoy every minute life had to offer. She cherished her family and friends deeply and left an indelible mark on their lives as well as anyone who was lucky enough to spend time with her. Kayla's passions were as vibrant as her personality -she adored celebrating her birthday, relished all things Barney, The Lion King and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and found joy in music, dancing, Big Macs, new shoes, pens on a string, calculators ("games"), fashionable eyeglasses and jewelery, and coffee.

Her love for her family was unmatched and unwavering.

After a recent, sudden decline in Kayla's health followed by a weeklong stay in Toronto General Hospital's ICU, Kayla joined her Daddy in heaven. Kayla spent her final few days surrounded by love from all her closest people with her hospital room never empty of family and friends and while our hearts are broken, we take solace knowing that she has been reunited with her Daddy in heaven catching up on missed hugs, kisses and cuddles.

She now rests in peace, free from the physical burdens she carried so bravely in life. Kayla's memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. Her love and laughter will continue to resonate in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

A celebration of Kayla's life will be held by her family, Wednesday May 8th, from 12:00pm until 3:00pm at Trinity Hall in Bowmanville (formerly Trinity United Church- corner of Divison and Church Street).

Kayla's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have reached out with support and love during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Blood Services or another charity of your choice. Kayla, you will be dearly missed.

Our loss is Heaven's gain. We will love you forever.
