Ursula Anna Ehlers (nee Schmidt) passed away peacefully with her daughter Heidi holding her hand on Tuesday, July 18th in Collingwood, Ontario, where she had lived with Kurt for a short time following her Alzheimer’s diagnosis in August, 2020.

For 34 years prior, Ursula and her devoted life partner Kurt lived north of Pickering on her beloved property that Ursula referred to as “The Plantation”.

Much loved mother of Heidi (Brian), and Reiner whom she shared with Klaus, her husband of 22 years. Oma to Hannah, Emily, Samuel and Jacob.

Tante Biene to Monica and Tim, great-aunt to Christopher. Predeceased by her parents, Konrad and Wilhemine (Stiller), her brother-in-law Arthur, and her sister Ruth.

Beautiful, stylish, creative, impeccable, fun, caring, loving, quick witted and generous - there was no one like Ursula. She will be missed by all of us and live in our hearts forever.

Friends are invited to join Ursula’s family for a Celebration of Ursula’s Life at McEachnie Funeral Home, 28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax Ontario on Friday July 28th, 2023. Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., service at 11 a.m. Lunch reception to follow.

Deeply loved wife of David John (deceased 1996).

Loving mother of Leah, Sheila and Frank (Marian).

Cherished grandmother of Paula (Steve), Matthew (Jacqui), Kathleen (deceased 1994), Erin (Rob), Julia, Jerrett and Cally (Kyle).

Great grandmother of Madeline, Hannah, Tristan, Theo, Ben and Luke.

Pre-deceased by her four brothers. Una will be dearly missed by extended family and friends. She was a devoted teacher, an avid daily walker, regardless of the weather. Her special scent was Chanel No5.

Her Roman Catholic faith was a pillar of her life. Una’s grandchildren had a special place in her heart.

Having never sewn before, she created seven quilts for them when she retired from teaching.

Once she finished, she never picked up a needle and thread again.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist (903 Giffard Street, Whitby), on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 10am. Interment at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Reception to follow in the parish hall.

She enjoyed travelling and trying new things. An avid reader Ursula spent her career as a librarian in the children’s department introducing so many children into the wonders of reading.She will be dearly missed by family and the friends she made over the years. A special thank you to Val and the team on Willow Way at Hillsdale Estates for the loving kindness and caring they provided Ursula over the years. Special thanks to those of his friends and neighbours and to the staff at Lakeridge Health Centre in Port Perry for their presence, care and compassion during Udo’s illness. Uno had a joy-filled childhood shared with his cousins Ann Luka and Evi Tael.Uno had to flee his native Estonia to Upplands Vasby, Sweden where he met his future wife, Maud Salep (nee Wikstrom). Four years later Uno sailed on the ship Gripsholm, arriving in Halifax, Nova Scotia on February 14, 1949.Maud followed 2 years later. They were married on October 13, 1951. He was a faithful and loving husband for 69 years.Uno and Maud chose to become Canadian Citizens December 29, 1959.They raised 2 children, Kathleen Walsh (Lawrence) and Stan Salep (Dayle), enjoyed 3 grandchildren, Joshua (Erin), Jacob (Sylvie) and Rachel Marie.They were overjoyed and blessed to have met their 3 great grandsons, Bradley, Connor and Tanner.He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
