December 9, 1942 - January 14, 2024
Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the age of 81.
Daughter of the late William and Inez Inglis. Beloved wife of Robert Edson Doran.
A very proud mother to Jeffrey, Lesley Doherty and Christina Meagher.
Cherished grandmother to Kai and Jacob Doran, Brenna and Elise Doherty and Evan and Connor Meagher.
Pat was extremely proud to have graduated as a registered nurse from the nursing program at St. Michael’s Hospital (Class of 1964).
She always put the needs of her patients first. Her medical background and acquired knowledge were put to good use in the raising of 3 children.
As well, she served as a camp nurse for brownie campouts. Along the way, she helped to establish a PTA at the local public school and served as the first president.
She enjoyed the sport of curling and to a lesser extent, golf.
She loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Japan (to visit her son who was teaching there), Hong Kong, Hawaii, the British Isles, and many islands in the Caribbean. She also enjoyed camping with her family and her many summers in Virginia Beach including deep sea fishing, swimming in the ocean and shopping in the malls.
Pat also loved to needlepoint and quilt and made many creations for her family. We have been married 58 years and Pat has been my right arm, especially when I travelled.
Like everyone, we had a busy life and moved several times from Unionville to North Bay to Whitby to Orillia and finally to Lindsay in 2009.
Pat had worked at Fairview Lodge part-time and later a full-time capacity for 10-15 years, retiring in 1998.
In 2012 she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
In Lindsay she was accepted into a clinical trial for a new Alzheimer’s medication which was discontinued in 2016.
Pat deteriorated after that and was admitted to Fairview Lodge in May 2017.
They say that when a loved one contracts Alzheimer’s, we lose them twice – once when they enter a long-term care home and finally when they pass away.
Special thank you to the staff at Fairview Lodge for their care and compassion during this long journey.
Visitation will be held at W.C. TOWN FUNERAL CHAPEL (110 Dundas Street East, Whitby) on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 10am-11am with a funeral service following at 11am. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada.
