September 21, 1939 - December 22, 2023
Genowefa Kaleta passed away peacefully at the age of 84, fortified with the Holy Sacraments and surrounded by the love of her closest family at home in Pickering, Ontario, on December 22, 2023.
Genowefa was born in the small village of Cięcina, near Żywiec on September 21, 1939. She was the youngest child of Karol and Anna Kania.
Genowefa bravely endured the difficult moments of her early childhood, marked by the devastating events of World War II and her father's presence at a concentration camp.
Despite these difficult times, she found her role as a mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother, all while keeping a close relationship with her five siblings throughout her life.
Genowefa’s strong character, incredible discipline and determination led her to choose a career as an elementary school teacher. She dedicated herself to her profession with immense commitment and integrity for 35 years.
Genowefa is fondly remembered by her students as a passionate and always well-prepared educator who never missed a day of work during her entire career.
After the unexpected and early death of her husband Czesław, Genowefa visited her daughter Renata, who lived in Canada. It is here where she found her second home. Genowefa worked and took care of her grandchildren, dividing her life between Poland and Canada despite the challenges she faced from Parkinson's disease.
She remembered her colleagues from work and church, and maintained regular contact with them.
She was honest, sincere, and always ready to provide material and spiritual help to those in need. In the hearts of her family and friends, Genowefa will always be remembered as an incredibly organized, hardworking, punctual, and disciplined woman. Above all, she loved her grandchildren, with whom she worked as a loving and patient educator from the day they were born.
She joyfully witnessed their successive accomplishments and cheered them on in every stage of life…always prepared to help them in any way she could. She found joy in simple pleasures.
Genowefa loved reading books, solving crossword puzzles, watching her favourite TV series, and playing cards, bingo, and scratch cards. She enjoyed engaging in political discussions, delighted in traveling (She visited the Holy Land three times, was in Fatima, Lourdes, Guadalupe, and Medjugorje), was not afraid of new experiences, and loved the warm sand and sun of the Caribbean. The taste of her legendary banana bread will remain in our memories forever.
Two months ago, Genowefa was diagnosed with lung cancer. However, before saying goodbye to the world, she was blessed with the grace of pain relief after a deep and heartfelt prayer by her friend, Jadwiga Walusiak, at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Częstochowa.
Throughout her life, Genowefa had felt close to God, with whom she had a profound and sincere relationship. She tried to prepare us emotionally for her departure and planned everything in advance, as she had done throughout her entire life.
She leaves behind two daughters, Renata Trent, who lives in Pickering with her husband Rysiek and their three children Iza, Stella, and Hugo, as well as her younger daughter Jagusia Machała, who lives in Poland with her husband Wiesiek and their daughters Karolinka and Kasia, and their two great-grandchildren, Witek and Martynka.
We will always remember Genowefa’s smile, warmth, sincerity, and ability to bring joy wherever she went, as well as her sharp mind, which remained unmatched until the very last day!
Her talent for telling jokes and funny stories will uplift our spirits forever.
Although our hearts are filled with sadness, we find comfort in knowing that she would want us to celebrate her life with smiles and fond memories.
Rest in peace, your voice will resonate in our hearts eternally.
We love you with all our hearts!
