It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Heather’s peaceful passing, surrounded by family on September 18th, 2023.

Heather was a devoted mother to Mark (Caroline) and Kelly (Jennie). Of them, she was eminently proud and unwavering in her affection.

Heather was lucky enough to find happiness in love twice, and is predeceased in death by her husbands Mark Mills and Roger Collin. She is also predeceased by her sister Lynn, who’s memory she has always cherished.

Carrying on her legacy of love, devotion to family and her fiery spirit are her cherished grandchildren Mark (Jenna), Haylie (Chris) Brittney and Erin.

Her many great grandchildren, who lovingly knew her as GG will also miss her terribly.

Heather had a huge heart and always had room in it for her blended and extended family; she will always be remembered fondly by her step-children and her step-grandchildren. For Heather, family and friends were everything….along with the occasional trip to the casino.

Heather could always be counted on by her family and friends. She was a strong, resilient woman with a genuine love for life that made her the incredible and unforgettable woman that we all knew and loved.

Per Heather’s wishes, there will be no formal gathering. Her family will reflect on her wonderful life privately.

Dearly loved wife of Gordon Carnegie, daughter of Trientje and Hank (predeceased), sister to Clarence (Sandra), Mary Tylosky (Terry), Nancy Crawford (Gary), predeceased by sister Lucy and brother Tom.

She leaves daughters, Cheryl Pratt, Christine Lomas (Glenn), Laura Edwards (Conrad), step-children Sharilyn Rathee (Neil), and Brad (Danielle), grandchildren Emily Pratt, Spencer Pratt, Ryan Lomas, Lucy Edwards, Arabella Edwards, Brianna Rathee, Sawyer Rathee, Peter Carnegie and Joey Carnegie, as well as nieces and nephews, Juliana, Andrew, Erik, Michael, Matthew, Kaitlin and Tim.

Hillary was born in Holland and immigrated to Canada as a toddler. She spent her early years on a farm in Hastings where she learned the value of hard work, perseverance, dedication, and love of family. It was these lessons that stayed with her into her adult years to form the basis of her strong character and moral standings.

As a young adult stepping out on her own, she had a zest for life and always went out of her way to help anyone in need. She found love and had two children, Cheryl and Christine. it was during these years that Hillary learned her most important lesson through the tragic loss of her younger sister, Lucy.

It affected her to the core and became a dark moment in her life. Not only did she raise her sister’s two children, she also became an advocate for Canadians Against Violence (CAVEAT), a charitable organization serving as a non-partisan voice for all Canadians working together for safety, peace and justice.

Hillary remarried in 1997 to Gordon where they lived in Courtice, eventually moving to Port Perry and finally settling for a number of years in Lindsay. During these years, she reconnected with her faith and became a dedicated member of VIVA Church in Oshawa where she found much comfort, peace, fellowship, and happiness.

She also volunteered for Victim Services of Kawartha/Haliburton for a number of years and spent countless hours guiding and listening to others who were impacted by tragedy. Helping people was always her passion and she took to it as though it was her destiny.

Within the last year, she and Gordon moved to Oshawa to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Hillary was a vibrant, involved, and active matriarch to our loving family, and an example to all for her love, kindness, and generosity. Please remember her in your thoughts and prayers.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to a cause very close to Hillary’s heart –http://victim-services.org/ online or by cheque by going to http://victim-services.org/donate/

Visitation will be held on Friday September 29th from 10 am - 12 pm at VIVA CHURCH, 71 Simcoe Street South Oshawa.

After a fierce and heroic third battle with cancer, we said good bye to “our” Heather, the morning of September 7, 2023.

This time the cancer had her surrounded, and without a single complaint in what turned out to be a brief battle that started in mid-July, she fought like a superhero until the end.

Every step of the way she was cared for with unrelenting compassion and caring at Stronach Regional Cancer Centre, Uxbridge Hospital and finally at Oak Ridges Hospice.

We will all remember the SMILE, compassion and love she brought to every relationship she had.

I’m sure she has already booked a Tee Time where the fairways are wide, and the greens run true.

We love you and miss you already. XOXO

Arrangements for visitation and a Celebration of life, will take place at a future date.

In Heather’s memory, donations may be made to Oak Ridges Hospice or Uxbridge Hospital Foundation.

On September 3, 2023, in his 103rd year, surrounded by his loving family, Thomas Harry Dyas passed away peacefully in Oshawa.

Beloved husband for over 73 years to the love of his life, Hilda Ann (predeceased), father of four: Susan (Danny) Jane, Denise (Paul), and Tom, proud grandfather to 10, great-grandfather to 10 with another on the way, nieces and nephews and a friend to so many.

Born in Black Heath Birmingham, England on October 17, 1920. Together with his mother Edith and older sister Dorothy, 3 year old Harry joined his father, John Henry, in Oshawa.

A few years later a sister Margaret was born.

From an early age growing up in the depression he showed an aptitude for entrepreneurship by promoting neighbourhood wrestling matches, raising pigeons and helping his mother with her concession stand at the Lake Ontario boardwalk.

He enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces at 19 joining the 11th Field Regiment in WWII and served overseas for 5 years 8 months.

Upon returning to Oshawa, he met Hilda Ann Holtforster in 1946 at the Avalon Dance Pavilion and in 1949 they were married. They enjoyed many great times dancing at the Oshawa Jube and together with their welcoming spirit created many lifelong friendships including the Goverde family whom they thought of as part of his family. Harry loved entertaining at his home by his pool and many parties were held there over the years.

After going to Ryerson College, working at Alger Press and Prudential Insurance, his entrepreneurial spirit blossomed with businesses such as Butch’s Bar,

The Oshawa Raceway, Southern Ontario Food and Freezer Service and even a candy floss and popcorn concession stand serving at outdoor events around the Durham Region region.

Our dad had two main loves in his life. His family who he adored and supported always and his community.

Volunteering for community organizations was an extremely important part of his life.

He served as president of both the Little NHL and the Kiwanis Club. Involved with NASC hockey and baseball leagues, Oshawa Little Theatre, Simcoe Hall Settlement House food drives, Meals on Wheels and charity bingos to name only a few as he was always on go.

In 2012, he received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award in recognition of a lifetime of community service and recently had a street named in his honour in North Oshawa.

As we say goodbye to our dad, we celebrate a life well lived, well loved and a home full of happy memories. A true gentleman who will truly be missed.

Our family is truly thankful to Clayre Vasquez and Jason Rideout for their compassionate and loving care over the years.
