Laverne passed away peacefully just 3 days before her 99th birthday, at the Brantford General Hospital with her family by her side. Predeceased by her husband John Douglas (1990) and her parents James Newton and Mabel Ross (Brown) Umphrey, brothers Robert (Mae), Keith (Marg) and Frank, and sisters Beryl (Mark Smith) and Iva (Will Harvey). Devoted mother to Ross (Hélène), Bill (Sheila) and Jeanne (Ron Gammon). Loved grandmother of John and Elizabeth Elliot, Michele and Lisa Elliot, cherished “Bunno” of Kathryn and Steven Gammon, and great-grandmother of 6. Laverne, as the youngest of her siblings, was a special aunt and more like a big sister to her many nieces and nephews. Born in Udora, Laverne lived most of her life there until moving to Uxbridge in 1992. In 2010, Laverne moved to Brantford to be close to her daughter, and has happily lived at Brierwood Gardens Retirement Lodge since then. Service will be held in Uxbridge, on January 23rd. A private burial service will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Church, Uxbridge, the Brantford General Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
After a very courageous battle, Olivia passed away with her loving family by her side at home on January 8, 2015 at the age of 13.Beautiful and kind hearted daughter of Robert and Jill. Cherished sister and best friend of Sam and Jacob.Adored granddaughter of Josephine Khashmanian and Helen and Al Livsey.
