Beloved father, husband and friend, Carl passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of November 9, 2023.

He was in the home he built in 1966, comforted by many wonderful memories and in the presence of family.

Described by family, colleagues, fire fighters, motorcycle club members and many friends as inventive, pragmatic, respected, hilarious, humble and inspirational, Carl portrayed these qualities his entire life.

He was wise and witty until the end, enjoying many visits and chats with family and friends as it became more difficult for Carl to travel far from home.

The family is appreciative of the care provided by Dr. Patricia Wong, and the large team of nurses and PSWs for whom Carl was a stoic and entertaining patient.

He will be forever missed and remembered by his four children, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons: Chris, Martha and daughter Emily, Michael, Shelley and daughters Ava and Grace, Heather, Leslie and children Jonah, Sophie, and Mia, Lisa and sons Nathan and Cameron.

Great grandsons Eli and Lennon held a special place in their Poppa’s heart.

In Toronto on November 3rd, after a period of declining health, Carole passed away peacefully at the age of 91.

Carole was the adored wife of Neil (d. 1994), cherished mom of Cameron and Karen (Ian) and Gram to Matthew (Amanda) and Anthony.

She was predeceased by her sister, Marilyn Campbell, and her parents, Stanley and Lorna Blues. Carole grew up in the Coxwell and Danforth neighbourhood of Toronto and spent most summers at the family cottage at Squires Beach in Pickering where, at age 15, she met Neil.

She worked for the Brokers-Dealers Association until she and Neil married and settled in Whitby where he set up his optometry practice.

As a long-time member of St. Mark's United Church in Whitby, Carole was active in its UCW activities. She developed many lifelong friendships that remained dear to her through St. Mark's and the Rotary Club of Whitby as well as in the 'old Whitby' neighbourhood where she raised her family.

Mom was one of a kind and stronger than she ever realized. After Dad's sudden passing, she lived independently for many years. She continued to work part-time, swim regularly with friends, travel to our special place in Maine, look after the family home, to entertain and decorate beautifully for every holiday, never missing the opportunity to bake her much loved shortbread cookies.

She was a great friend and a wonderful mom. We are thankful to staff at Midland Gardens Community for their kindness and compassion in caring for Mom, with special thanks to nurses Tian and Leah and to all Mom's PSWs.

A celebration of life will be held for Carole on Tuesday, November 14th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark's United Church, Whitby, 201 Centre St. South, L1N 4V7, (905) 668-3091. A reception will be held following the service.

DECEMBER 31, 1948 – OCTOBER 22, 2023

With extreme sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Christine Vella at Lakeridge Oshawa Hospital on October 22nd, 2023 at the age of 74.

She will be eternally missed by her soul mate Victor, her daughter Deborah, son Michael and her 4 grandchildren.

She will also be fondly remembered by Victor’s siblings, Vince Vella, Esther Brown, Joe Vella and Mario Vella as well as her cousin Gino Loni (Val).

Chris was born in Germany in 1948, and in 1950 emigrated to Canada with her mother Hermine (nee Shultz) and father Jerzy Abramowicz. S

he was raised in St Thomas Ontario, where she later met and married the love of her life, Victor.

They would have been married 54 years this December.

They moved to Oshawa in 1969, where Chris later pursued a career with the Royal Bank.

She went on to have two children Deborah and Michael and 4 grandchildren, Holland, Haven, Havanna and Havelin.

Chris’s love for her family was like no other. Her husband Victor was the love of her life and she treasured the life they created together.

Although her daughter Debbie moved away to the KW area many years ago, she always kept in touch with her via phone; almost daily. She was, and always will be Debbie’s biggest fan.

She was a caregiver along with her husband, to their son Michael.

Providing for him the best life they could, always loving and protecting him. Chris and Victor were also very active in Sunrise Developmental Social Services. Volunteering, and developing a support system for themselves and Michael. Chris was truly proud of both of her children.

Chris was a social butterfly and had a gift for the “gab”. She made friends everywhere she went. She had a vibrant personality, and was known for her generosity and warm-hearted nature. She had a great sense of humour and could make anyone feel comfortable around her. She was a listener and a wonderful friend. She was a genuine person.

Chris was very creative and artistic, often selling her crafts each year at the Eastdale Craft Show amongst many other shows. She also had a love for gardening and would flood her home inside and out, with the beauty of flowers. More recently, Chris took up walking at the local walking track.

This was her passion, her obsession. You would often find her there 5 or 6 mornings each week, logging as many steps as she could around the track. She wanted to be healthier, and live as long as she could.

Chris was an extraordinary woman. She loved deeply, was loved by many, and will be deeply missed. Her legacy of love, humour, dedication and spirit have imprinted on the hearts of many.

She was truly one of a kind.

Visitation will be held at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Friday October 27 from 6 – 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held the chapel on Saturday October 28 at 1:30 p.m.
