Olyvia Kathleen Greentree

Olyvia Kathleen Greentree

Listed in

15 JULY, 1990 – 21 MAY, 2024

It is with tremendous sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Olyvia Kathleen Greentree on May 21, 2024.

Olyvia was a powerful force right from her beginning.

She essentially lived two phases of life.

In her first phase, the "pre-concussion" phase, of life she was a fun-loving free spirit who surrounded herself with family and countless friends, gave 100% to her soccer and hockey sporting career, and worked hard enough in school to be an Ontario Scholar and complete all but a month in her five year University program. Her second phase was "post concussion".

Despite suffering many concucssions, Olyvia never wanted to give up her sports -- until she had to.

Over the past 10 years, Olyvia drew on her strength, her skills, and will to survive until she could fight no more. Olyvia never let her disabilities interfere with her love of music nor her willingness to help others.

Although her plate was full, she put the needs of others ahead of her own and could not help but carry their burdens. Olyvia leaves behind her parents Brad and Anne Greentree, her sister Whitney Corcoran and Brother-in-CORCORAN, law Brian Corcoran, and her beloved nephews (and "Best Friends") Logan, Levi and Leo. She will be sadly missed by her Gramma Betty and her Aunt Suzie and Uncle Chris, Uncle Jason and Aunt Geana, Aunt Suzanne, Uncle Jimmy and Julia, and her many cousins: Briana, Becky, Elyse, Brent, Mallory, Nick, Ben, Abby, Zack, Janson and Shea.

She was pre-deceased by her Grampa Doug (Greentree), Gramma Sally and Grampy (Alexander Borovsky), Auntie Colleen and Uncle Tony. Olyvia's struggles were numerous and beyond comprehension. We were most grateful for the many, many physcians, nurses and support workers who helped us to help her.

In particular Dr. Paul Echlin and Dr. Charles Tater who quickly responded to Olyvia's initial needs so many years ago when she suffered a debilitating concussion while playing hockey for Bishops University. As well the many, many, many staff at Ontario Shores who kept Olyvia safe and helped guide her through her healing.

Nicole and Leah, you can't imagine how much of a positive impact you and the Recovery College had on Olyvia's outlook on life. Nurse Shire (Lakeridge Health Oshawa), you gave Olyvia calm and comfort in what was often a pandemonious state. Olyvia drew strength through the powerful support of her sister, family and friends.

Veronica your unwavering friendship meant the world to Olyvia, and your daily calls allowed Olyvia to fulfill her dream of teaching vicariously through you. Certainly Olyvia's life was too short for those of us left behind, but through all of our grief our faith allows us to believe that Olyvia is at peace -- and for this, we are abundantly grateful.

Visitation will be be held at the COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice, 905-432-8484 on Tuesday, June 4, from 9:30 am until time of Celebration of Life in the Chapel at 10:30 am.

The service is available via Livestream using the following link: https://ipickart.com/stream/OlyviaKathleenGreentree/ Contributions in Olyvia's memory may be made to Ontario Shores Foundation for Mental Health, https://www.ontarioshores.ca/foundation/about; and UHN Foundation - Canadian Concussion Centre , https://support.uhnfoundation.ca/site.

Special thanks to Obeline’s extended family at Extendicare Oshawa, who lovingly cared for her over the past 9 years.

The family wants to especially thank Asha who showed Obeline unwavering kindness and loved her like her own family.

Obeline was always well respected, as she stepped up to raise her many siblings after losing their parents at a young age.

Obeline did have a hard life at the beginning but made up for it in later years by travelling to many exotic places like Malta.

Obeline was a lover of Bingo and loved when she would win. She holds the keys to our past.

Obeline loved taking picture to document special occasions, there was never a time she was not using her camera and she did not shy away from having her picture taken.

She was a grandmother figure to a lot of the nieces and nephews as she never had children of her own and even showed her nurturing side at Extendicare.

Cremation has taken place and a private family urn interment will be held at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Whitby. Online condolences may be shared at armstrongfh.ca .
