Our beloved Baba Lula passed away peacefully on April 22, 2023 at the age of 85 years.
Lula was a firecracker, born in Piraeus, Greece October 18th, 1937.
With her contagious and rowdy laugh, Lula was “Ma" to everyone who was lucky enough to know her, even if they were actually her senior.
Lula immigrated to Canada in the late 1950s, sponsored by her Uncle Gus Diamond, who owned the Royal Grill restaurant in downtown Port Hope, Ontario.
It was while waitressing at the Royal Grill that Lula met the man of her dreams, Milutin “Nick" Nikolic, who vowed to marry her after just a couple of encounters.
Lula and Nick were married in 1960 and had 4 children, Alexander (Kim), Atanasy (Wendy, who was Lula's best friend for life and extraordinary caregiver), Peter (Saveria), and Katarina Charette (David).
Lula enjoyed and adored her 5 grandchildren, Nicholas, Emma, Lucas, Alyssa, and Emily. Dementia robbed Lula of her zest for life in her later years, but she knew when to laugh, to her final days.
The richness and vastness of the memories and experiences she leaves behind will continue to be her most treasured gifts to us all. Special thanks to the staff of Extendicare Oshawa, especially her PSWs and nursing staff on Unit 2. Lula’s family is grateful for the especially tender and personalized love and care that Maria, Alrolyn, Alisha, Patty and Sharyn provided at Extendicare.
