Page Steadman

Page Steadman

Listed in

July 12, 1937 - April 7, 2023

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Dr. Page Steadman on April 7, 2023 at the age of 85 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa due to complications arising from coronary artery disease.

Born in July 12, 1937 and pre-deceased by his parents, Edward (‘Ted’) and Marjorie (‘Madge’), his brother Adrian (Pip) and son Jack (Melissa Leitman-Steadman), Page is survived and will be missed by his wife of 60 years, Dr. Jennifer Steadman, sister Mary Stevens, son Paul, and adored grandchildren, Sarah and Jacob.

Page will be recalled fondly by his daughter-in-law, nieces, nephews—some biologically-related, some not—and many friends and colleagues who encountered him either professionally or socially.

Born in ‘The Cwm’ and raised in Ebbw Vale, Wales, Page attended the National School of Medicine in Cardiff, Wales where he earned his medical degree and met his partner-for-life, Jennifer.

They emigrated to Canada in 1965 when Page participated in a medical practice in the Danforth-Jones area of Toronto.

He and his family moved to Nobleton, Ontario in 1968 where Page set up a family practice in the converted garage of his home that he maintained until his retirement in 2001.

He was also a staff physician at then York County Hospital, now Southlake Regional Health Centre, for 35 years. Page was the quintessential small-town physician: kind, gentle, available and professional.

He was active in the community, curling and serving on the boards of Nobleton Arena and, later, Carrying Place Golf and Country Club where he and Jennifer passed many, many happy days together and with family and friends. They travelled extensively and golfed up and down the Eastern seaboard in the Canadian off-season.

In retirement, Page and Jennifer re-located to Newmarket where Page’s love of and loyalty to Jennifer were demonstrated as he affectionately cared for her during her tragic descent into dementia.

He did so almost entirely without complaint. He will be remembered as a humble, relentlessly decent man whose ethical code always guided him to do what was correct rather than what was personally best for him. This quality made him an invaluable mentor to many.

A private cremation has been completed. A Celebration of Life will be held in Page’s honour at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Page’s name to any charity representing kindness to those less fortunate would undoubtedly please him.

Page’s family would like to thank the attentive and nurturing staff of the Assisted Living floor at Amica Whitby, in the LHO Emergency Room (especially RNs Amber and Marissa) and on the LHO Supportive Care Unit (RNs Samantha and Karen and Dr. Vieira) for their tender care of Page during his final weeks. Ultimately, Page went out on his terms with minimal suffering having lived a full life that left him happy and proud.

He was much loved and will be missed.

Pauline Pattison

Pauline Pattison

Listed in

February 26, 1942 - April 4, 2023

Pauline was born during World War II in the south of England and grew up in the postwar period.

She had two ambitions, one was to teach, the other was to travel.

She met her husband while teaching and was married in August 1964.

They emigrated to Canada in 1976 with their two small children.

Unfortunately, her British teaching credentials were not accepted in Ontario, but she kept her love of young people alive by becoming a student advisor at Seneca College; a position she held until retirement in 2004.

She and her husband travelled extensively, culminating in a six month round-the-world trip in 2005.

Pauline was also active in her church community, particularly in presenting with her husband at Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekends.

Sadly, she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2016, and with Dementia in 2021.

She coped with this awful disease with good humour and grace, but suffered a fall in January 2022 which led to her decline. She was lovingly cared for at home until she suddenly passed away on April 4, 2023.

She leaves behind her husband Rex, her children Nick and Gemma, and two grandchildren Abby and Dylan.

Funeral mass will be held at St Francis of Assisi in town April 14 at 11 am. It will be followed by a reception at the Massey House with family only attending the committal at Bond Head cemetery.
