October 16th, 2023 was a day that turned the world upside down for our family.

Pops/dad/grampa/great grampa-to-be to our new Mumford addition, enjoyed his daily walk and returned home to his chair to enjoy the rest of the day, starting with his afternoon nap.

That's when the decision was made by a higher power that he would enjoy the peacefulness from now on.

James Wallace Wayne Mumford passed away peacefully on his terms, as it should be.

He has left here to continue to love and continue his memories, his loving wife of almost 61 years, Oct. 27th, the love of his life for 71, Lorraine Mumford (nee Langford), daughter Joanne (Jodi) Hatch & husband Robert (Rob), son Douglas (Doug) Mumford & wife Karen, grandchildren James (Jimmy) Mumford & Deanna Ryckman & Brody Hatch & Ben Perlman, Sara Pickford & Justin, Brett Hatch & Madi Williamson, Alden Mumford & Jessi, Kelsey Mumford, Willem Meredith & Spencer Meredith, his many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends near and far.

Jim was the last remaining of 9 siblings, Ed, Ron, Earl, Ross, Dorothy (Dot), Cecil, Dale, & Doug, all raised on Mumford Road in Mumford Station/Harcourt, Ontario.

Visitation to be held at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West, Oshawa on Wednesday October 25th from 10:00 am until time of funeral service in the chapel at 11:00 am. Reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, mom would love donations to the Alzheimer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Passed away peacefully at her residence with her family by her side on Monday, October 16th, 2023 at 76 years of age.

Beloved wife of the late Patrick Jones. Loving mother of Greg and Rob (Patricia).

Devoted Nanny of Brandon, Adam, Amy, Phil and Faith and Great Nanny to Harper and Evelyn. Dear sister of Carole (Ron) Robbins.

Joy will be fondly remembered by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, her dear friends Stan Stacey and Dianne Goldring, her many nieces, nephews extended family and many friends.

Visitation will be held at COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice 905-432-8484 on Saturday, October 21st, from 12:30 p.m. until time of Celebration of Life in the Chapel at 1:30 p.m.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Donald. Mother to Jason and Adam.

And loving Aunt to her nieces and nephews. Joannie was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Shirley.

She will be sadly missed by Toby, Tommy and Bella. Joannie was born and grew up in Toronto, ON.

She moved to Durham Region in 1997, where for the past 18 years worked for Napa Auto Parts where she continued friendships from the past and created countless new ones. She will be sadly missed by all.

Passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, in her 97th year.

Dora was predeceased by her parents, Ethel Sowden and Thomas Selleck, her husband George MacDonald, and her daughter Treassa MacDonald, as well as by siblings Winniferd, Victor (a WWII casualty) and Oscar.

She is survived by her elder sisters, Grace and Pearl.

Dora was the loving mother of Tom Dotzko (Pauline) and Rob Webdale (Elisabeth). She was also the loving keep-‘em-in line games-playing Grannie to Jeremy, Kyle (Kristin), Garrett (Kelly) and Josh.

Doting Big Grannie to Jasmine, Rylee, Lachlan, Mavi and Kyra. She will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews and by her lifelong friend, Anne Zealand.

In accordance with her wishes, a private family “goodbye” has taken place, as well as cremation.

A private internment with her husband and her parents will take place at a later date at St. John’s Norway Cemetery, Toronto.

After a courageous four month battle to recover from Covid, John Leslie Devitt passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side on Oct 11, 2023.

Loving husband of Carol Devitt for 58 years and beloved father to Jeffrey and Gregory.

Survived by his adoring sisters, Jean Seguire, Marion Amy and special relation Juanita Day, predeceased by his brother, Kenneth.

Born at Ross Memorial Hospital and raised in Bobcaygeon, John started working for General Motors as a young man in Oshawa.

He worked his way up to through the ranks and spent 9 years as a District Sales Manager in Southern Alberta. John was respected by his dealers and took great pride in the relationships he formed with them, including those critical Wednesday afternoon business meetings he would conduct on the golf course. John was a natural athlete who excelled at many sports.

He was a gifted hockey player who played from a young age right through to his many adventures with his Oldtimers hockey teams in both Oshawa and Lethbridge. After he hung up the blades, Dad’s next passion was running, and he was very proud of completing two marathons.

In his retirement years, he developed a passion for Slo Pitch and spent 23 years on the diamond making many great friends along the way. He was very proud to participate in the Canadian Senior Games held in Cape Breton.

After 39 years with GM, John retired, and he and Carol became snowbirds.

They spent 19 fun filled years at Lakeshore, Florida and looked forward to returning every January. Many special friendships were formed playing cards and on the ball diamond.

Their support meant so much during this difficult time. Family was very important to John, and he developed special relationships with his nephews and nieces.

From the family gatherings at Christmas to birthdays and other celebrations, John loved being an important part of their lives and was everybody’s favourite uncle. John and Carol had a special bond with her sister Pat and her husband Doug that included 25 years of cottage co-ownership.

He and Doug spent many days playing golf at Stoco and evenings playing euchre.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in John’s memory are asked to consider Kedron United Church or the United Way.

Visitation will be held at DESTEFANO FUNERAL HOME in Oshawa on Monday Oct 16 from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday Oct 17 at 1:00 PM.

Passed away on October 10, 2023 at Sunnybrook Hospital following a brave journey with glioblastoma (brain cancer).

Jim, a Christmas baby, was born to Jane and Joseph Rueckert in Bronxville, New York 54 years ago.

When he was three years old, the family emigrated to Canada and settled in Scarborough. Jim attended Albert Campbell Collegiate Institute and went on to earn an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Applied Studies Co-op from the University of Waterloo, as well as a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto.

On a sunny summer day 28 years ago, Jim married his high school sweetheart, Jennifer (nee Blackwell), and together they built a wonderful life together in Pickering.

Soon, their daughters Miranda and Oriana came along to complete their family and bring a new sense of pride to their world.

Jim was a passionate educator who inspired students to take risks and step outside of their comfort zones while working together to achieve greatness.

He taught at Coppard Glen Public School and involved all intermediate students in his successful music program. He then taught music and career studies at Bur Oak Secondary School until his diagnosis in the spring of 2022. Jim also loved sharing his passions with his family. Jim is survived by the loves of his life: his adored wife of 28 years, Jennifer, and his treasured daughters, Miranda and Oriana.

Also surviving Jim are his mother Jane Rolleston Rueckert, his sister Joy (Eddy), Jennifer’s parents Gord and Anneke, his brother-in-law Kevin (Colleen), and his niece and nephews Andrew, Ryan, Katy, Alex and Colton.

Jim is preceded in death by his father, Joseph James Rueckert. Jim’s family is sincerely grateful for the compassionate and thoughtful nurses, doctors, and staff of Sunnybrook Hospital and the Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation.

The family will receive visitors at McEachnie Funeral Home, 28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax on Saturday October 21, 2023, 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and Sunday, October 22, 2023, 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, with a Celebration of Life immediately following.

The ultimate family man; John Wonnacott, passed away at age 54 on October 6th early in the morning.

Anyone who knew him felt his love through his jokes, his gifts, and most importantly his hugs.

John was the greatest father to his daughter Alyssa and a wonderful and loving husband to Rose, John would do anything for his girls. He was a little brother, a son, an uncle “UJ”, a friend, John was someone who loved with his entire heart.

Always joking, he always knew exactly what to say to cheer you up. He’ll be very missed by many, and though his time was cut short, his time on earth filled the people around him with happy memories to last forever.

In 2014 John received a second chance at life through a kidney pancreas transplant, he lived his life to the fullest everyday and in light of the beautiful memories made possible by this operation the family is asking instead of flowers, donating to the Kidney Foundation.

A Private Family Service will be held at Mount Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life for John will be announced at a later time.

John McInnes passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 5, 2023.

John was born November 21,1931 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Married to his sweetheart 'Bubbles' on October 4th,1957; he and his wife Nancy (nee Clark) celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary, this past Wednesday.

John is survived by his three children, John McInnes, Regan Sleeman (Vic), Valerie Williams (Greg), his six grandchildren Kate and Shannon McInnes, Victoria Hutchison (Peter) and Brenden Sleeman, Mitchell and Briar Williams and his great grandson Kenneth Hutchison.

John loved the great outdoors, skiing, camping and canoeing. He enjoyed over 40 years of sailing on Lake Ontario.

He was an avid member of the Oshawa Yacht club where he served a term as Commodore and later joined the Whitby Yacht Club.

John loved spending time with his wife, Nancy, family, and friends; all with a good measure of Scotch.

Fondly remembered and missed by Betty Scovil, their Maid of Honour, and life-long friends, David (deceased) and Alice Fisher, and their children Lesley and Craig.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Hillsdale Terraces, Oshawa; especially, those in the Garden Gate Residence for their care and kindness given to John. Slàinte mhath! 'Big Bad' John / 'Old Gray Hairs'.
