With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rita Globe, lovingly known as Ritzie Ritz, on September 29th, 2024, at the age of 41. Surrounded by her loving family at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa, Rita left this world as she lived it – with grace, love, and a heart full of generosity.

Born on May 24, 1983, in Toronto at Women’s College Hospital, Rita brought joy to everyone who knew her. Her kindness, creativity, and love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Rita was a beautiful, kind-hearted soul who always put others before herself, making the happiness of her family and friends her greatest priority. Her warmth extended not just to people, but to her beloved fur babies, Jade and Smaug, who brought her immense joy. She found happiness in vacationing with her family, whether they were flying to Disney World or cruising through the Caribbean, always cherishing those precious moments together.

Always full of ambition, she successfully launched multiple online businesses, and even during her hospital stay, her selflessness and creativity shone through. From her hospital bed, she designed stunning crystal gem art, gifting it to the nurses and doctors who cared for her, as a token of her deep gratitude for their unwavering attention to her happiness and comfort.

Rita leaves behind her devoted and loving husband, Graham, and their beautiful daughter, Raine, who were the lights of her life. GILBERT, Carolyn Anne Gilbert (nee Sidsworth) - January 8, 1933 ~ September 4, 2024 (age 91)

Although our hearts are broken, we are content knowing that you are pain free now. You married your best friend, soul mate and companion of 75 years, your husband Bruce. Together you built 3 homes; Brooklin, Port Perry and Snug Harbour, adopted and raised from birth two children, her devoted daughter Sandra Doreen Stubbs of Lindsay and the Late Steven Bruce Gilbert (2005). You have predeceased parents; Gladys Long and Arthur Sidsworth.

You have left to cherish your memories sister Lorraine Jones, brothers Jack Sidsworth (Rita) and Ralph Sidsworth (Cathy). You have two amazing grandchildren who remember the years at the trailer as well as too many memories that we will cherish and keep close to our hearts forever, Robert Stubbs (Rebecca) of Vancouver and Lesley Stubbs (Daniel) of Toronto. You have predeceased grandchildren Amanda Stubbs (1985) and Devin Jansma (2024).

You travelled to Texas, Florida, The Caribbean, Spain, England and drove to the East and West Coast of Canada. You were a stay at home mom providing nurturing guidance and support to us growing up. We always had someone to welcome us home when school was over. Your baking was amazing, especially the butter tarts and pies. Your knitting and crocheted items won many awards at local fairs. You gathered the family together and loved to entertain. You took pride in your gardens and loved to read, especially history. You volunteered many years at Fairview Lodge in Whitby and knitted for preemies and women’s shelters. A piece of our life has been taken from us. We are forever grateful to have had the opportunity to love you and be loved by someone so special.

GUMBINGER, Cindy Lou Gumbinger - February 2, 1958 - September 12, 2024

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Cindy Lou Gumbinger on September 12, 2024, at Peterborough Health Centre, following complications from arterial bypass surgery. While she fought hard through the night, the recovery proved to be too much for her heart, and she passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She leaves behind her devoted husband of nearly 46 years, Pieter; three beloved children, Michael (Diana), Jason, and Cheryl (Brad); and her five treasured grandchildren—Ella, Mason, Ivy, Dryden, and Leah—who were her sunshine and the absolute light of her life.

Mary Lou McDonald, fondly known as Grandma Lou, was an integral part of Cindy's upbringing. She showed her unconditional love and unwavering support throughout Cindy’s teenage years and beyond, opening both her home and her heart to her. Grandma Lou’s nurturing presence played a crucial role in shaping Cindy into the wonderful woman, mother, and "Grammy" she became. Her influence should be commended for the joy and care Cindy brought to her own family.

Cindy was the embodiment of love and warmth. Her family, especially her grandchildren, were her whole world, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She spent ten years as a hands-on daily presence in the lives of Ella, Mason, and Ivy, helping to raise them and shape them into the incredible individuals they have become. Her grandchildren will forever cherish the memories of baking with her, especially making banana muffins and her perfect pancakes—because only Grammy could make them just right. They’ve promised to carry on the cherished family tradition of roast beef dinners, although they’re not sure they will ever be able to make it quite like Grammy did and will continue to honour her in their daily lives striving to always make her proud.

Cindy also held a deep and abiding love for animals, often finding comfort and joy in their company. Her home was a haven of laughter, kindness, and the unconditional love she shared with both her family and her beloved pets. In honor of her compassionate spirit, we ask that donations be made in her name to The Humane Society of Durham Region—an organization close to her heart. This will continue her lifelong dedication to protecting and caring for the animals she loved so dearly.

Although she is no longer with us, we take comfort in knowing that Cindy will be looking over all of us. She will now be the brightest star in the sky, shining down on us with the same love and warmth she shared in life.

Cindy leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and compassion that will live on through all of those who were lucky enough to know her. She will be forever missed, but never forgotten.

All are welcome to join us for a celebration of her extraordinary life at THORNTON FUNERAL CENTRE (1200 Thornton Road North, Oshawa, 905-579-6787) on September 21st from 1:30pm – 3:30pm. Please come dressed in comfortable, colourful, and bright attire to match the joyful spirit Grammy brought to all of our lives.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Durham Region.
