Loving mother of Douglas (Trish), Ronald (Andrée) and Carol (Warren) Alder.Cherished grandmother to Shane (Tara), Amanda (Jonathan), Bobby, Brennan (Lindsay), Anthony and Brianna.Loving sister of the late Eleanor (the late George), the late Dan (Joyce), June (the late Orville), Jim (Debbie), the late Ruth (the late Howard), Joan (Ron), the late Johnny and the late Larry (Marilyn).Norma worked as a registered nurse until 1991 at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville. She then kept busy with her volunteering and involvement in different organizations.She was active in the U.C.W. and catering committee at Trinity Church. She also belonged to the Bowmanville Lioness Club and Eastern Star.As well, she volunteered with Lifeline, Meals on Wheels and the Lakeridge Health Bowmanville Gift and Coffee shop. She was passionate about her crafts and gardens and loved to travel.Thank you to the staff at Seasons Retirement Home for their care and compassion over the last four years.As well, thank you to Dr. Irish, Dr. Hollander and the nursing staff at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville for their excellent care during this time.Visitation will be held at TRINITY UNITED CHURCH, 116 Church St. Bowmanville, on Saturday March 2, from 12:30 – 1: 30 pm. A Funeral Service will follow at 1: 30 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation.

December 5, 1959 - January 19, 2019Died Saturday January 19, 2019 after a difficult battle with cancer.She was the best Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, Daughter, Grandma, and Friend that anyone could hope for. Nancy loved her family fiercely and worked hard everyday to make sure they were taken care of.Because of her, special occasions were beyond special.Birthdays and Christmases were a spectacle, and she always made the best chocolate chip cheesecake. Nancy was an avid fisherwoman (the type that didn't catch much), and chipmunk feeder.She loved her hometown and long swims in Beaver Creek.Nancy was endlessly, relentlessly supportive of the people she loved, and was someone you could always count on.Visitation on Monday, January 21st, 2019 12:00pm - 2:00pm., at W.C. passed away peacefully at Ajax/Pickering Hospital on the evening of January 2, 2019.Neil was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his mother Dorothy and father James, his sister Paula, brother Ian and his wife Lorrie, brother Stuart and his wife Marcie; his nieces Jennifer and Victoria; his nephews Connor and Dylan; and by the extended Brindle and Eastaway family around the world.Neil made a lasting impact on everyone that he met.Those in the medical profession who met Neil over the past 4 years marveled at his strength and determination.Through it all Neil never once complained and if you asked him how he was, he was always “really good.”He loved hockey, soccer, football, music, family, and was a proud member of the Pickering Trojans – his championship high school football team.

2/20/1925 - 12/5/2018Mom was surrounded by the love of her children and grandchildren during the last days at Thortonview LTC home with the devotion and affection she so generously demonstrated in her 93 years. With her were Casey (Donna), John (Anita), Ted (Nancy), Susan (Norm); grandchildren Garrett, Drew, Jeremy, Daniel, Tyler, Eric, Melissa, Renee, Jordan, Brett and Jaclyn.She was blessed with 11 great grandchildren. Mom was born in Bergen op Zoom, Holland in 1925 to Kees and Antoinetta van der Velde followed by siblings Reit and Rinus (deceased). She married Theo Oortwyn (deceased 1978) where they immigrated to Canada in 1952.The two worked hard to establish and build a life in Canada.Mom’s work ethic reflected in her taking on jobs such as Loblaws and most notably as co-owner of Bunny’s Catering where she was a familiar and welcoming face as she often multi-tasked where no job was beneath her Mom’s hands were never idle. She tirelessly cleaned, cooked for Sunday dinners, gardened and was best known for her exemplary sewing skills which had her on her machine until the early morning hours. The friendships she grew with her dutch friends, neighbours, many in-laws (Wilma) were life long bonds. Bob (deceased 2016) came into her life and married in 1985. Together they spent 31 years with the growing family. Mom’s last years were a challenge, but in her notable strength, she pursued by demonstrating her love for her family while continuing to engage others in her home at Thortonview.
