It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Goran Oberg on the 6th of February 2022.
He passed in peace and comfort at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in the palliative care wing after a brief illness.
Goran was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1948, to Kai and Febe Oberg.
He immigrated to Canada in 1971, where his aunt and uncle and their children lived, having come years earlier. He met his wife Sonja, also a Swedish immigrant, while in Canada in 1973.
They briefly returned to Sweden to be married in 1976, but their daughter Annika was born several years later in Canada, where they’d made their home in Scarborough.
He became a journeyman glazier, working for several companies before he accepted a position at Fairview Glass in Scarborough, a job he enjoyed and remained at until his retirement in 2017. He became a proud Canadian citizen in 2004 alongside his wife.
He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, daughter, as well as his mother Febe and his brothers Lars and Thomas back home in Sweden, and cousins Ulla, Deanna, and Dean and their extended families here in Canada.
The family would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to the wonderful and compassionate care of the palliative staff at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, who ensured that Goran did not suffer even the slightest discomfort during his two-day stay in their care.
A celebration of Goran’s life will be arranged at a later date.

It’s with great sadness we announce the passing on January 27, 2022 of our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather George at the age of 94.
George was married to Gloria Robson for over 70 years at the time of her passing in 2018.
George is survived by daughter Lynn, son Peter (Karen), grandchildren Stephanie Ott (Brandon), Michelle Ott (Chance) Ken Robson (Natalie) and great grandchildren Jude, Dash, Maverick, Harper and Walker.
George is also survived by his partner Doris Ashenhurst.
Doris and George very much enjoyed their time together and were constant companions.
George enjoyed many years as an active member and executive of the Uxbridge Seniors, Uxbridge Lawn Bowling and Uxbridge Curling Club. George delivered Meals on Wheels as well as being a Community Care driver for over 25 years.
Recently George has missed his Legion comrades who he spent many Thursday afternoons with solving most of the world’s problems. During World War II, George, at the age of 15 left Fergus Ontario to join the Canadian Army. Army recruiters turned him down because of his age.
Recruiters did provide him with a train ticket to New York City where he signed on with the armed Norwegian merchant ship “Margarete Bakke”. George travelled the ocean seas having his 16th birthday in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Upon his return to Canada George joined the Canadian Army and was shipped to Shilo, Manitoba where he obtained his “wings” as a Canadian paratrooper.
Dad was a wise gentleman who always had time for family, always welcomed last minute guests and made people he met feel comfortable.
He had fond memories of his 41 years at Stelco Steel retiring as Superintendent of Stores. Dad saw humour in the fact that his education ended at the PSG level which sounded impressive in meetings but actually was the abbreviation for Public School Graduate. We will miss Dad’s wisdom, guidance and charm.
We wish to acknowledge the care and services provided by Douglas Crossing. We commend and thank the Uxbridge Legion for continuing to support veterans and their families.
Special thanks to Dr Chau and Dr Munn who each provided compassionate medical support. Visitation (walk through) to be held at Low and Low Funeral Home, Uxbridge, on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. To attend the visitation, you must register a time in advance by contacting the funeral home.

In his 90th year we lost our cousin George.
George and his siblings June and Walter were first cousins to my grandfather. Neither of them married or had children so as a result they were always around during the holidays or big family gatherings.
George was a quiet man who had a love for tools and electronics.
He worked for IBM and I can always remember when we visited him, he would have the latest technology! Up until his passing he was still using a laptop and investing in new electronics and tools. He enjoyed shopping and getting the best of the best!
He was also a funny guy in the sense that he would buy something and instead of returning it or selling it he would just upgrade and keep the old one! I thank him for some of the ‘old’ technology I got over the years thanks to his generosity.
Though he never had kids or nieces and nephews of his own he was always so good to mine.
He got them gifts at Christmas and just loved watching them open it up and enjoy it!
He also didn’t need a special occasion to give them a gift, I think he just liked seeing them have fun.
George we will miss you and today I’ll have a beer in your honour.
Peacefully after a short illness on Saturday January 22nd, 2022 at the age of 81.
Beloved husband of Natalina.
Father of Gasper, Joe and his wife Cindy.
Nonno of Jamie, Nicolle, Anthony, Trinity, Emma and Ally.
Great-grandfather of Dominic, Lucas, Logan, Kalieb and DJ.
Joe will be missed by many brothers, sisters, extended family and friends.
A private family service will take place.
Arrangements entrusted to McINTOSH-ANDERSON-KELLAM FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558).

On January 26, 2022 Gerrit Vandenburg went home to his Lord.
Faithful husband for 66 years to the late Dirkje.
Beloved Papa to John (Cindy), Margaret (Rob), the late Marian (John), Susan (Brian), Peter, Debbie (John), Michael (Mary Claire), Lee-Anne and the late Mickey.
Proud Grandpa to 25 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Dear brother of Pieter (Tina) and the late Jozina and Johannes.
Papa’s concern and prayers for his family were constant. Gerrit was born on Oct 20, 1926 in the Netherlands and his faith and convictions shaped his life from a young age.
He found strength and refuge in The Lord in times of trouble as he worked with the Dutch resistance and was imprisoned in POW camps during WWII and later served with the Dutch army in Indonesia.
In 1951, Gerrit immigrated to Canada where he met Dirkje, married and raised a large family.
He pursued his dream to be his own boss and soon became a farmer, first of poultry, then dairy and finally as an apple grower. Gerrit’s love for God extended to the Church where he was active in leadership.
His keen interest in God’s Word, current events and theology made him an avid reader and a wealth of knowledge. Gerrit enjoyed long, in-depth conversations, challenging chess games and fishing.
His creativity found outlets in wood carving, painting and writing his memoirs.
Above all these interests, there was nothing he enjoyed more than his family.
The Lord watched over his life – his coming and going both now and forevermore. Ps 121
Visitation will be held at MARANATHA CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, on Saturday January 29th from 1 - 2 pm. Funeral Service will follow at 2 pm. Interment Bowmanville Cemetery.
