April 29, 1945 - June 15, 2023
Marcie Holmes passed away peacefully in hospital at the age of 78 surrounded by her three daughters.
She was a beloved wife of 37 years to David Holmes and cherished daughter of late Russell and Hildred (nee Dawe) MacIntyre.
Devoted Mother of Joanne (Ron), Marlene (Joe), Paula (Rodney), and son, the late Harold as well as parent to Neil,
Steve and Jeff. Faithful Nana of 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Cherished sister of Evelyn, Russell, Ron, and Paul.
Marcie found joy in life's simple pleasures - a cup of tea, gardening and the smell of the ocean.
It's no wonder that after moving her family from Nova Scotia to Toronto and carving out a career for herself that her husband and soul mate David Holmes retreated back to small-town living Northern Ontario. Her hobbies included baking, bird-watching, fishing, swimming and growing food.
She especially loved decorating her home at Christmas time.
Despite being afraid of flying, Marcie made the long drive "back home" every 10 years to walk along the ocean cliffs of Cape Breton and visit the coal mine where her father worked.
Marcie loved her family and kept in touch by text and social media. She followed her grandchildren closely and never missed a chance to comment on the beauty of their families. When Marcie saw them in person, she served tea with stories of her life and family tree tracing back to 1800’s Nova Scotia.
Marcie was a devout Catholic who loved God, Jesus and all His Angels and Saints. She will be dearly missed by her extended family and many friends, who feel comforted in knowing that she is now in the loving arms of God and those that passed before her in Heaven.
Marcie Holmes is resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME , 124 King Street East, Oshawa (905-433-4711) for visitation on Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 10am until 12pm.
A Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church on Thursday June 22nd at 12:30pm. Following the Mass, we will be proceeding to Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, where she will be laid in her final resting place beside her husband.

Mary Lewis passed away peacefully in her sleep June 20, 2023 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.
Mary was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Morgan Lewis.
Mary leaves behind her son Jeff (Jaan) and daughter Tracey (Jeff Gardner) as well as 5 grandchildren, Jesse, Nick, Spencer, Connor, and Kaitlyn.
Mary was born in Abaco Bahamas and had 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Mary got a job right out of school when a friend told her that the Royal Bank of Canada was hiring in Nassau. She met Morgan when he was transferred by the bank to Nassau.
They were married in 1962, days before Morgan was transferred back to Canada.
A few years later they returned to Nassau with Jeff and Tracey in tow.
After 3 years in Nassau and 2 years in the Grand Caymans they would eventually relocate to Canada until they moved to Marsh Harbour, Bahamas for 3 more years when Morgan retired.
Mary was always available to help out, selling raffle or 50/50 tickets, organising a fund raiser or just being there for a friend.
She loved having family dinners, especially around the holidays.
Mary was lucky to have so many close friends, and she was never one to be a wall flower. Because of Morgans affiliation with Barbershop singing and Harmony Ranch, Mary’s list of friends would make some envious.
It is ok to feel saddened for Mary’s untimely passing, but you can keep her spirit and love in your heart.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to your favourite charity in memory of Mary.
