It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Gallagher.
She passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 11th, 2021 of natural causes at Lakeridge Health Hospital.
Elizabeth was born January 6th, 1924 to Mary McManus Lacey and Thomas Lacey in Montreal.
She was their eldest daughter in a family of 4 girls and 4 boys.
As a young girl, she volunteered with the war effort and continued to show commitment to others throughout her life by generously supporting catholic charities, and acting as a patient caregiver. Throughout her life, Elizabeth worked as a secretary for various companies in Montreal. She met and married her husband Bill (William) Gallagher in 1960.
They traveled widely during their twenty-five year marriage. Elizabeth made a home in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, London, Ontario, Calgary, Alberta and finally in Ajax, Ontario.
She cared for her widowed mother until her death in 1993.
Elizabeth’s generosity, kindness, quick wit and sense of humor were a gift to all who knew her.
Elizabeth was extremely devoted to her family who loved to be around her. Elizabeth lived on her own until her death, fiercely independent and stubborn to the end. Her life was well lived and she was well loved.
Elizabeth is predeceased by her husband William Gallagher, her brothers Frank and Tom Lacey and her sister Catherine Kelly. She will be lovingly remembered by her siblings Lawrence Lacey, Mary Massel, John Lacey (Diane) and Margaret O’Hara (Gerry), her numerous nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.
A private funeral will take place on Tuesday, April 20th at St. Bernadette’s Church in Ajax. The family will be holding a celebration of Elizabeth’s life in London, Ontario at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St-Vincent de Paul are appreciated.
