1925-2021 Comel Adassa Leahong Rickards one of 12 siblings emerged as the matriarch of the family.
Our home became the hub, the safe place for many, the gathering place.
As we say goodbye to her mighty little frame, and on August 2, 2021, Comel leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to her family; always quietly taking charge, making sure all her children had a welcoming place no matter what age or stage we were at. Loving us and supporting us in ways only a nurturing devoted mother could.
Our mother was a quiet warrior in her own right. Most would underestimate her demeanour.
But she navigated her life with strength and grace, bravely staring down every challenge sent her way and was always the one left standing at the end of each battle.
She taught us so many life lessons by the way she lived her life, showing kindness, humility and compassion to everyone. Our mom together with my dad instilled values in all of us by the way they lived their lives.
No one left behind. Anyone who needed help in any way was always welcomed with open arms in our home. She was a true partner and friend to our dad, Ken, and by his side as he took his last breath 26 years ago. It has been our honor to love and care for her over the years.
A few months shy of her 96th birthday, we salute you Comel Adassa Leahong Rickards.
You were an inspiration and an example to all who were blessed to know you.
Loving you always and forever.
Comel leaves behind chidren Ken (Audrey), Donald (Kathleen), Mark (Marjoriane), Lynda and Sophia and her beloved Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
Visitation and Service are private by invitation only through the family, on Tuesday August 10, 2021.
