November 11, 1932 - November 20, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marguerite Dorothy May Pearce at Northland Pointe, Port Colborne on November 20, 2022, just 9 days after her 90th birthday.
Beloved wife of the late John (Jack) Ernest Pearce and loving mother of Mark (Joanne) and Terry (Patricia).
Marguerite was born in Toronto on November 11, 1932, to Ralph Brodie Brunton and Ethel May Elizabeth Brunton (Goheen) and was the eldest of 11 siblings.
Survived by her brothers Ralph (Beverly), Norm (Alana) and Ken (Fawn) and sisters Gloria (David), Jo-Anne (Wilf) and Janet. Marguerite is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Ron, David, Doug and Bruce.
Marguerite first met Jack in 1949 when she was working at a S.S. Kresge store in Toronto while Jack worked for the same company.
They subsequently married and were together for over 68 years in a relationship that was truly special. They were very devoted to each other.
Jack’s career required the family being transferred on a regular basis and as a result the family lived in Toronto, Hamilton, London, Kitchener, Edmonton, Welland and Brampton before Jack retired from his company in 1990. Marguerite worked in the banking industry and was with CIBC for over 25 years. Her last position before she retired was at Shopper’s World, Brampton branch.
Marguerite was very devoted to her family and until her sons were older, she worked part-time with the bank so that her family could benefit from her guidance and support. She was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain and host special occasion dinners and events. Coming from a large family also meant many dinners and events were big and busy. In hosting these events, Marguerite often organized lots of fun activities so that everyone had a wonderful time.
Marguerite and Jack had a large network of friends and were very active with the Brampton Golf Club for over 45 years. Marguerite was also a member for many years with the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Brampton.
Once Jack retired in 1990, they purchased a retirement home in Port St. Lucie, Florida where they greatly enjoyed being snowbirds and where they had another large network of friends. Jack and Marguerite loved to travel and had holidays in Hawaii, Asia, Europe and the Caribbean.
In December 2019 Jack and Marguerite moved to Port Colborne, Ontario and subsequently sold their home in Brampton.
Unfortunately, Marguerite’s declining health required her to move to a long-term care facility and so she moved to Northland Pointe where she received excellent care until her passing.
Marguerite will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life for Marguerite & Jack will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 11 a.m. at ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME (124 King St. E., Oshawa).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northland Pointe, the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, or to a charity of one’s choice.
