It is with profound sadness that we announce that June (Butler) Large passed away at Marshall Gowland Manor, Sarnia on July 21st at the age of 87. Beloved wife of the late William (Bill) Large. Loving mother of Kathy and Jeff (Lori). Cherished grandmother of Jeremy, Chelsea, Matthew, Ryan and Lindsay. Loving great-grandmother of Chase, Emmitt, and Easton. Dear sister of Helen, Barb, and William. Beloved aunt of several nieces and nephews. Loved daughter of Lawrence Butler and Ethel (Winterbottom) Butler.

What can be said about such a special person in so small a space. June was a warm, kind, steadfast, easygoing, down-to-earth person which reflected her upbringing in a compassionate, loving household making the most of their means. Growing up with her family on their double lot in Wallaceburg, Ontario, June cared for her disabled brother William alongside her sisters, sharing many living room dances together. Making clothes, tending to food gardens, enjoying school, spending time at the beach, and raising animals kept June busy and formed a foundation for her future passions. As a testament to her strength following the early loss of her parents, June moved to Sarnia to start anew with an insurance job, and soon met the love of her life, Bill. She had an exciting and joyful career spanning her time as a soda jerk, ice cream scooper, insurance staffer, loving mother, Zellers cashier, and retiree. Her famous smile, giggle, and gentle hello graced all passers-by of her yellow brick house on the corner of Willa Drive for decades.

She lived a life filled with time outdoors, gardening, coffee chats, summering at her camping trailer, enjoying films, spending time with Bill, her siblings, her friends, and her children, as well as lovingly raising and inspiring the next generations of her family. As someone who truly enjoyed people, June will be remembered and missed by all those touched by her presence. Forever devoted to her husband and family, this gentle woman was a loving spirit and a humble role model for the next generations and her many lessons will not be soon forgotten.

June’s family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Marshall Gowland Manor for their exemplary efforts and their attention to the personal needs of June over her last years. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to the Inn of the Good Shepherd (Sarnia, ON), the Ontario Federation for Cerebral Palsy, and/or a registered Canadian charity of their choice. Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.

The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be
compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.
Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.
He is rich who owns the day, and
no one owns the day who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.

Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in. Forget them as soon as you can,
tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit to be
cumbered with your old nonsense. This new day is too dear,
with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on the yesterdays.

Jessie passed away peacefully, at home with Kathy and David. She had a lovely last few weeks with her grandkids and great grandkids who all were visiting her at the lake.

Even though there were times over the years where mom wasn't in Blackstock, the memories, recollections of small town life, the happiness she had with her family, and the love she felt within the community was always a source of joy.

She met a young man, Blake, from "up north" while playing tennis in town. She lived in the same house that she moved to as a young bride and where she raised her 4 children. Survived by her children Richard (Pam) Gunter, Kathy McLaughlin (David Nicholishen) John Gunter (Devi Arasanayagam) and Susan (Lorne) Bagel, 3 grandchildren Alex, Jessica and Blake and 4 great grandchildren.

Mom loved young children and as a kindergarten teacher, a teacher librarian and then later in life as a leader for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, she influenced a whole generation of young people in the community. As a grandmother and great grandmother she will be remembered for her wonderful cookie baking, where licking the spoon was always encouraged, hot tub sessions, loving encouragement and Florida vacations.

Mom loved Blackstock and spent many hours telling stories of playing baseball in the park and listening to the Maple Leaf hockey games on the radio, powered by a car battery. She longed to sit again on the corner house verandah, always loving her recent times visiting Jack and Devi. She loved her visits to Chilliwack to see Richard and Pam and her Sunday chats with her daughter Susan. Although her memory started to fail, she never forgot David who cared for her many hours over the last 6 years.

They say the cause of death was an "ice cream overdose" as she was never one to pass up on the offer. What a way to go. She was loved and will be missed but her memory will live on. Special thanks to the personal support workers, Sarah, Alicia, Brenda and Denise.

John W. Love, the eldest son of 5 children, learned responsibility early, driving a taxi at the age of 14. He studied bookkeeping in high school; the art of making numbers dance became one of his greatest joys. He was always happy to give financial advice to others. The greater joy for him was his family - his sisters and brothers, Beatrice (1930-2016), his wife and partner of 57 years, and their children Elizabeth (Tom Benson) and David (Jim Harcott) and grandchildren Alexa (Matt Joyce) and Kilian (Jessica De Gaust), all living on the West Coast. John and Beatrice visited their children often, helping with a multitude of projects. Teaching his children to play cards - both solo and crib - was a basic for being part of the family.
