Gillian “Jill” Findlay passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at the age of 86.

Gillian was born on March 11, 1935, in Swansea, Wales to parents William Davies and Edith (Grey) Davies.

She graduated from college where she acquired secretarial skills including “Gregg” Shorthand, ready to start her career.

In 1955, Gillian immigrated to Canada where she met her first husband James Carmichael.

They were married in Toronto in 1958 and moved to Scotland a few years later.

Gillian stayed home to raise her four children, Ian, Brian, Cal, and Caroline.

Once all the children were in school, she started her career as a professional secretary.

She continued working and raising her family until she decided to returned to Canada in 1982.

When Gillian returned to Canada, she reconnected with her mother and siblings. Her sister, Delice, would take her out dancing for fun. One night while they were out, Gillian met her second husband, Charles Findlay.

Charles had three children, Jacqueline, Charles and Kevin.

Gillian became a part of the family and helped raise the youngest, Kevin.

Gillian was full of life! She made others laugh and always had a big beautiful smile on face.

She loved meeting new people, listening to music, dancing, and spending time with her family and nearest grandchildren, Olivia and Logan, who they knew as “Nana”. A few of her favourite hobbies were sewing, taking care of her garden, cooking delicious meals, and playing the keyboard.

Gillian was predeceased by her parents (Edith and William Davies), her brothers and sisters (Delice, Eaton, Vernon, Alva, and George) and her former husband, James.

She is survived by her husband, Charles; her children Ian, Brian, Cal and Caroline; her step-children Jaqueline, Charles, Kevin, her grandchildren Olivia, Logan, Caitlin, Ryan, Beth, Sean, Luke, Ronan, Catriona, Shauna, her sister Margaret, and several nieces and nephews.

A private family visitation to celebrate Gillian’s life will be held at the DESTEFANO FUNERAL HOME, 1289 Keith Ross Drive in Oshawa, on Saturday, April 3rd, from 2:00-4:00pm.

In keeping with the COVID 19 restrictions masks are required.

December 13th, 1955 - March 10th, 2021

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Gert Rosenau on March 10 at the age of 65 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Elke (Sommerfeld), daughters: Rebekah (Michael), MarjaLiese (Dan), and Stephanie (Jonathan) and grandchildren: Esther Grace, Lyla, Caden, Asher, Nolan, Aubrey and Piper.

He will be greatly missed by his father, Ewald, and mother-in-law, Hilda, brother, Rolfe (Sherry) and sister, Karin (Shawn).

He was predeceased by his loving mother, Alice, and father-in-law, Ernst.

He will be forever in the thoughts of many other relatives and dear friends.

Gert was a loving and supportive husband, a thoughtful and protective Dad and a caring and encouraging Opa. Born in Kitchener, Ontario, Gert was the first of three children to Ewald and Alice (Dreher) Rosenau.

Gert had an enjoyable childhood taking family trips to Florida, attending German school on Saturday mornings, and painting and fixing up cars. He was also an enthusiastic member of his church youth group. Gert studied biology at the University of Waterloo.

He received his Bachelor of Education from Brock University. In 1981, Gert and Elke moved to Palau as missionary teachers at Bethania and Emmaus High Schools.

They returned to Canada in 1988 and Gert took a teaching position at Stouffville Christian School where he later established their first computer lab.

For decades he served on the board of Liebenzell Mission. In 1994, he was hired by Durham District School Board where he started as a teacher librarian, went on to be a board facilitator and finally ended his career as a highly respected, tech savvy, principal. He taught and wrote teaching courses for York University.

He is remembered as someone with a great sense of humour, who was always willing and able to solve problems especially with ever changing technology.

In his spare time, if he wasn’t tinkering around on the computer or researching recipes, you could find Gert relaxing at the trailer and building unnecessarily large fires.

In his retirement, he found great joy in developing his woodworking skills and gifting everyone he knew with bowls and pens.

Joe has never lost a fight in his life and he certainly did not lose to Covid!

He fought until his last breath before he passed in the evening of Friday, March 5th, 2021.

Joe leaves behind a legacy of relationships with hundreds of people whom he loved and they loved him.

Joe had no enemies.

To describe Joe is to say “Joe was a blast….a fun guy!”

He was a big brother to 3, Dom, Steve and Rocky.

A big cousin to many that he grew up with.

A father of two beautiful Biase boys in his likeness, Jesse and James.

A fur father to 6 fur babies…Max, Havoc, Kaos, The Baron and Farrah...all Rotties except the Princess Bella.

A favourite uncle to many nieces and nephews. A favourite son!

A favourite nephew! A great neighbor and an awesome friend to countless people…Dale Willan…Kelly Mitchell – birthday buddy!

Joe was an avid, enthusiastic member of Capitol City Shutzhund Club with his lifelong friend Colin.

Joe’s highlight of his life was watching his sons play soccer over many years.

Joe always had a home project on the go and could fix or build anything.

Self taught jack of all trades and master of electrical.

Joe worked the downtown Toronto corridor for 20 years with his crew from Plan Group, Joe Ancona, Rob Livingston and many others.

He loved going to work, rarely missing a day. He was happy to go anywhere and do anything or happy to just sit at home and watch Coronation Street with a beer, me (his wife, Sally) and a dog at his side.

I would like to thank Lakeridge Health Oshawa for their outstanding care during the past 52 days.
