Listed in

May 20, 1943 - January 25, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that the Bettencourt family announces the passing of George Bettencourt on January 25, 2021.

A longtime resident of Scarborough, Ont., George was in his 77th year.

Born on May 20th, 1943 in Georgetown, British Guyana to Caesar Joseph Bettencourt and Cecilia Rebecca (n. Logan), George was raised there with his siblings Jeannette (d.), Megan, Caesar/Raymond, Frank, June, Johnny, Pam, Joseph, Stephen and Anjali (d.).

In 1971, George and his then fledgling family emigrated to Montreal to begin a new chapter in life; an adventurous, fulfilling and exciting time remembered by all with great fondness; George’s ebullient, celebratory nature and his forthright curiosity and intelligence about life and the world being central and inspirational to his family in every way.

Ultimately George and his family moved to Toronto in 1984, to be closer to the Bettencourts’ growing circle of family and friends, who were always the greatest source of joy in his life, and to pursue the plentiful great times and adventures which followed.

George is and shall be dearly missed by his ever-loving wife of 52 years Janice (n. Johnson) along with his devoted and treasured daughters Lisa, Simone, Trish (& Mike) and Nina, for whom the sudden and tragic loss of this beautiful man is very hard to bear.

Additionally, George will be deeply missed by his very close extended family.

Having been pre-deceased by two of his dear brothers-in-law, Patrick (Johnson) and Cecil (Johnson), George also sadly leaves behind brothers-in-law Cyril (& Loyla) and Michael (Johnson) as well as his sisters-in-law Pamela (& Milton), Jenny (& Kevin), Anita (Cecil) and their entire families.

George loved, and was loved, by all.

The Bettencourt family would like to extend its thanks to the doctors and health-care professionals at Scarborough General and Scarborough Grace Hospitals in caring for George through his final days.

October 19, 1931 - January 7, 2021 It is with great sadness that the family of Gerard (Gerry) Clement announce his passing at the age of 89, on Thursday, January 7th, 2021 at Scarborough Grace Hospital.Gerry will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Rejeanne and his children, Jennifer (Ritch) and Daniel (Paige). He will be cherished by his grandchildren, Gabrielle, Mackenzie, Sophia, Jacob and Matthew. He is survived by one sister, Els (Martin) who resides in Holland. Born in Hoensbroek, Netherlands on October 19, 1931, 3rd child of 6 siblings, Gerry immigrated to Canada in 1955 as did his brother Jan Clement. To know Gerry, was to appreciate his quiet sense of humour, his calm and caring manner and to always know he was there to help. He was a builder. Independent and creative who built the household furniture, light fixtures, cabinets, wood crafts games like his famous wood tic tac toe and cribbage board and many others. Everything was built strong and to last.He was always there for family and friends who needed help with a repair and tools, but most importantly he gave his help with love and joy. He never believed in rushing, it was the process of building that mattered most.If there was a small flaw in his wood work, he enjoyed leaving it there for people to find and talk about in the future. He taught us the value of living simply and always being there for each other. A funeral service for immediate family only, will be held at St. Barnabas Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 12th, 2021 at 10:30am.In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gerry Clement can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto.
