Beloved John (João) Campos, 69, passed away on August 17th 2024, after a long illness.
John was born on February 20, 1955 in the small gold mining village of Minas de Jales, Trás-os-Montes, Portugal. He was born to Ana Augusta da Costa Chacatas de Campos and João Brito Fabião de Campos. John also had an older brother, Luis de Campos, who predeceased him in 2012. John moved to Africa with his family to the city of Beira, Mozambique at the tender age of 4.
John met Madalena as a teenager in Mozambique, and upon returning to Portugal in the mid 1970’s together they had two children; Tiago and Joana.
In 1991, John moved to Canada, where he would eventually settle in the town of Whitby, Ontario. Over the next 30 plus years, John would study and work a variety of jobs and careers, always aiming to provide for and support his children, who moved to join him in Canada in 1993. His work included roofing, driving, trade-shows, graphic design, printing and the construction supply industry.
Throughout his life, John enjoyed spending time with friends, listening to music, reading philosophy, riding motorcycles, windsurfing, watching auto racing, among other things. He would speak often of how he missed the African sunsets of his youth.
Most of all, John treasured his children, their spouses Kelly and Kevin, and in the past 2 decades his grand children: Sofia (20), William (17), Isaiah (16), Grace (15), Julia (15), and Benjamin (8). He was happiest of all surrounded by family, sitting by the pool on a sunny day. John loved his nephews Luis and Ivo and his niece, Lara, and their extended families.
After pondering his beliefs most of his life, John proudly became a believer in Jesus Christ and was baptized in the summer of 2023, alongside his grandson, Isaiah. John developed an enviable dependence on God and forged strong connections and beautiful friendships with his church community.
Services will be held at Renaissance Baptist Church of Brooklin on August 30th at 11:00am with a luncheon following. Visitation will be held from 10:00am-11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Oak Ridges Hospice of Durham, in Port Perry, who were so instrumental in providing great care and comfort in John's last days, as they do for so many others and their families.

CAMBPELL Ruth Ann Campbell - With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Ruth Ann Campbell, known affectionately as Rudy, who left this world peacefully on August 15th, 2024, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, surrounded by her loving family, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
She was 67 years old.
Born on March 19th, 1957, Rudy is survived by her beloved husband James, devoted mother to James (Jackie) and Paul (Stephanie), and the adored grandma of Autumn, Addison, Memphis, and Harper. She was also the daughter of the late Mary and Joseph Flynn. Dear sister of Mary Lou (Ron), Joanne (predeceased) and Patricia (late Hugh).
Rudy was a beacon of kindness, warmth, and resilience, touching the lives of everyone she met. She was the family’s biggest cheerleader, always present at her children’s hockey games and later, cheering on her grandchildren from the soccer field, skating rink, and poolside.
A lover of simple joys, Rudy found peace and beauty in the small things — whether enjoying a cup of tea with family and friends or meticulously tending to her garden.
A warm and caring person, Rudy was known for her welcoming nature and her willingness to help others. Her love for animals was evident. It’s comforting to think she will be reunited with her cherished family, friends and pets.
Friends are welcome to attend a visitation and celebration of Rudy’s life on August 29th from 2:00-4:00pm at Rossland Park Country Club - 500 Mayfair Ave. Oshawa
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to Canadian Cancer Society https://cancer.ca/en/ways-to-give/daffodil?
COUCH, William Paul - Our hero, "Billy", passed away peacefully at Ajax Pickering Hospital on August 9, 2024.
Born on July 22, 1939, Billy leaves behind his surviving sisters, Dale, Joanne and Nancy and was predeceased by his parents, Florence and Thomas ("Viv"), and by his brother, Rod and sister, Lynn.
Sadly missed by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Born developmentally delayed, Billy had a difficult early life in an era where disabilities like his were not always fully understood.
He was cared for in numerous group homes over the years. The last 30 years or so he had the good fortune to stay in some excellent group homes where competent and loving care was given. At every group home that he stayed at he would always say "I like this place". Holidays spent with family were very important to Billy and he was always ready with an "I love you".
Billy had several health issues over the years and somehow always managed to bounce back, a little worse for wear but always smiling. He had impeccable manners as instilled by his Mum and Dad – he always had a "yes, please" and "thank you" for everyone.
He was quick with a "Hello, my friend" greeting and then saying "I like you". Sadly, Billy was not well enough to attend his 85th birthday party, but almost 50 people graciously attended to wish him the best.
Billy was a big admirer of British Royalty, especially the Queen, and he loved to look at pictures of them. No memorial service is planned. His remains will be cremated and interred at Duffin Meadows in Pickering. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice on his behalf.
