In Loving Memory of Grace Noreen Hawtin (nee Williamson)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Mom passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Champlain Manor in Orillia.
Born in Beaverton, daughter of Charles & Lina (Flynt) Williamson. After completing high school, Mom moved to Toronto to attend nursing school at Toronto General Hospital, where she graduated as an RN. She returned to Beaverton when she married Dad in 1948. She was a long-time active member of St Andrews United Church and the UCW (55 year pin), the Beaverton Curling Club, the Lakeview Manor Auxiliary, and many other community organizations.
Best friend and loving wife of Art, who predeceased her in 2014. They spent 66 wonderful years together, and could often be found on their Carden ranches, tending the cattle and enjoying the peaceful countryside. Mom was also predeceased by her brother Eldon in 2011.
Mom was a supportive, encouraging and much loved mother to Shirley (John) Somerville, John (June), and Janet. Proud Grandma to Paul (Michelle) & Jeff (Julie) and David (Sonya) & Mark (Mindy); and Great Grandma to Chloe & Fletcher, Arianna, Amber & Jackson, and Annabelle
After Dad passed away, Mom moved to Orillia, making her home at Champlain Manor, where she actively participated in the many activities and events that they offered. We would like to thank the wonderful staff for their care and compassion.
Family and friends are invited to Mom’s visitation and funeral service on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at the Mangan Funeral Home, Beaverton. Visitation will be held from 1:30 until the time of the funeral at 2:00, followed by a reception at Beacan Presbyterian Church, 413 Simcoe Street.
Mom will be missed but never forgotten. Mom & Dad were always there for us and were our biggest supporters. Thank you for your love, guidance, example, and devotion to our family. You will always be our guiding lights.
It is with deep and profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Husband, Dad, Papa, Dida and friend Ivan Haluska. Ivan unexpectedly passed away on July 16, 2024, at the age of 78.
Ivan was predeceased by both his parents, Antun and Marija; siblings, Joseph, Antuny, and Kata; in-laws Molly and Fred; and son, our brother, Antuny Charles. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Kathy, his children, Marija (Walter), Terezija (Angelo), David (Chelsea) and the loves of his life, his grandchildren, Tariq (Tiarra), Mekhila, Isabella, Gabriel, and Khalil.
Ivan was born in Novi Mikanovici, Croatia. He left his country to make a better life for himself at the age of 18. He had amazing stories of this time and eventually made his way to Flin Flon, MB, where he met his beautiful wife of 55 years, Kathy. Ivan and Kathy settled in Winnipeg, where they welcomed their children. In 1980, they made their way to the Okanagan and never looked back. Ivan took so much joy in all the fruit and veggies available. We all have wonderful memories of going to orchards, gardens, and farms with him. He always took great satisfaction in growing food for his family and for the community.
Ivan’s cultural pride remained strong and was most notably displayed during the soccer world cup. He remained a dedicated, devoted and highly respected member of the Croatian Club, earning him distinction as a lifetime member. He loved to entertain and his pig roasts were legendary. If you didn’t leave a roast a little tipsy or a little too full, you must have been hiding from him. One of his most prized possessions was a plaque naming him “Best Croatian Cook” awarded to him by the club.
Ivan was a hardworking plumber, highly respected for his skills and integrity. He was immensely proud of owning and running his own business, Alpine Mechanical. Ivan was a handyman to anyone in need, until the day he passed. He loved to serve others – whether through his work with the Knights of Columbus, coaching minor sports, park clean-ups or dinners to feed hundreds, Ivan always found the time to help.
Ivan was big-hearted, silly and generous. A kid at heart, he was the favourite playmate of his children, grandchildren and most of the neighbourhood. Ivan remained the number one fan of his grandchildren, attending hockey, soccer, football, basketball, baseball, and softball games whenever possible. He proudly declared them the best players (without bias) to anyone who would listen. Many in Kelowna may have seen him making friends and distributing lollipops not long ago at a basketball tournament. He took immense pride in his role as a founding member and builder of the Kelowna Bocce Club. Much of his joy came from working in the bocce club yard, one of his truly happy places.
We miss him dearly, unsure how to proceed without our beloved “Ivan the Terrible”. From the simplest acts of kindness to the grandest gestures, Ivan’s spirit will continue to guide us. Each game we attend, every lollipop we hand out and every bocce ball we roll, will be a tribute to the man who taught us the true meaning of dedication and fun. It is our turn to carry forward his traditions, to foster the same sense of community and to live each day with the same generosity he so effortlessly embodied. Rest in peace, Ivan.
A Funeral Service will take place on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at CORPUS CHRISTI CATHOLIC CHURCH (formally St. Theresa’s), 750 Rutland Rd N, Kelowna, BC. A reception will be held with the Catholic Woman’s League in the basement of the Church.
AND
A celebration of his life will take place Thursday, August 22, 2024, starting at 3:00 pm at the Kelowna Bocce Club, 2340 Aberdeen St, Kelowna, BC. Come and go as you please, meat will be served at 5:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the family for a memorial bench on the mission green way so we can visit him always in a place that was filled with hours of play and laughter. Additionally, we kindly request that you perform an act of service for someone in his honour. Ivan’s most heartfelt way of showing care and love was through acts of kindness.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Irwin Hobden, who passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024, at the age of 93.
Irwin was born on the family homestead farm in Lister, BC. He farmed alongside his father and younger brother until 1950 when he relocated to Nelson, BC to serve an apprenticeship as an Automotive Mechanic. In 1955, Irwin was transferred to Penticton, BC, where he met his beautiful wife, Alice Lockhart. They married in 1960 and made Penticton their forever home. Together they raised two children, Lana and Ritchie. And in 1992, their family expanded when they welcomed their grandson Marc.
In the 70s, Irwin worked as a Diesel Engine specialist and traveled throughout Western Canada for Cummins Diesel as their representative in the field. From there, Irwin went on and founded his own Chrome Plating plant on Warren Avenue, with White Western Star Trucks being one of his largest clients. In the 1980s, he embarked on his last career, which was with Transport Canada, servicing the fire support vehicle fleet at the Penticton Regional Airport.
In their early days, Alice and Irwin were avid sports car enthusiasts and met by way of the Okanagan Sports Car Club. Irwin was an original founder/participant of the Knox Mountain Hill Climb and continued as race marshal for many years. Irwin also built and raced hydroplane boats on Lake Okanagan and Kootenay Lake for many years. In those days, Irwin was easily recognized in the Okanagan Valley by this 1956 MGB white soft-top sports car with bright red leather interior. His young nieces and nephews knew him as “Uncle Zoom Zoom”. His love for speed also included many wild canoeing expeditions down the Lardeau River nestled between the Selkirk and Purcell Mountains with his crew of fellow adventurers. And we can’t talk about Irwin without mentioning his love of animals. Irwin was never without a four-legged friend, he loved cats and dogs equally and his pets were important companions in Irwin’s later years.
Irwin is known to many for his 52 years of service with Scouts Canada, and his 25 years as President of the South Okanagan Community Concert Society. As well, Irwin was active with the Penticton Arts Council for many years and has received many awards and recognition for his dedication and service.
Irwin started to lose his eyesight in 1998 soon after retirement. Irwin had always dabbled in woodworking but he accelerated his talents and became an exceptional woodworker, creating gorgeous works using fine and exotic woods. He enjoyed meeting and interacting with his community at the many craft fairs he attended. His workshop was always meticulous and full of exciting new ideas for his next creation. As a near-blind woodworker, his mantra was “never stop, and never give up”. His positive attitude was an inspiration to many, and he maintained this attitude even in the face of illness.
Irwin lost his wife Alice suddenly in 2005. He persevered through this hard time and learned to cook. He realized that he enjoyed it, and he mastered the Caesar salad, grilled steak, and baked potato!
In his latter years, Irwin loved a good “dad joke” that he could add to his repertoire, a nice glass of Chardonnay, and time spent with loved ones. He will be missed by all.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 11:00 am, at Bethel Church, 945 Main Street, Penticton BC. A luncheon will follow the service at Bethel Church
Donations can be made in Irwin’s name to Scouts Canada, and the CNIB.
